Who wants a puppy who is housebroken, neutered, heartworm negative, up to date on all his vaccinations and loves to have fun?????? If so, Barney is your guy! He is actually 2 1/2 years old, but in a golden's life, that is a puppy!
Barney loves life and is a joy to have around. He had been living with a family and two dogs. Then the elderly mother-in-law and her 10 year old poodle moved in.....so Barney had to leave. He'd been in an overcrowded shelter for over 2 weeks until we picked him up 5 days ago. He's used to being around kids, other dogs and cats.
He's been great with our 3 goldens and every dog he meets on our walks He's very curious about our elderly cat but hasn't chased her. He was walking like a drunken sailor at first but we're using the gentle leader and now he's walking great. He knows several commands and comes immediately when called. He went to the vet today and is completely healthy weighing in at 57 pounds. He is a medium golden with a pink nose and lips and the most unusual, beautiful eyes you've ever seen. Everyone he meets comments on his eyes. He's completely housebroken and willingly goes in his crate. He loves any type of toy. He only barks when he's playing with the other dogs. He can really jump high but never jumps on people.
Just can't say enough good things about this boy. He is young so will need to go to a family who can spend time with him and give him lots of exercise. He would love to have another pup or some kids to play with. Please contact your placement advisor if you're interested in Barney.
Barney went to his forever home today with his new mom. He will be living with an aunt, 2 kids, and 2 fursiblings. We are so happy for Barney and his new family! We had Barney for such a short time but enjoyed every minute of this energetic puppy with the gorgeous eyes. We know he will be well-loved by his new family and we hope they have many wonderful years together.

This is Melody, Barney 10-308’s forever mom. I wanted to give you all an update on how he’s doing!
I adopted Barney in Oct. 2010, one month after losing my beloved RAGOM golden Buddy (aka., Happy 02-219 http://ragom.org/avail.cgi/Available/dog?dog_id=1813) to cancer. One look at his precious little face on the RAGOM website told me that I NEEDED another big, furry, GOLDEN personality in my life… and wow did he fit the bill completely!! I drove down to Iowa to meet him, and the next day we started on our forever adventure together!
Since that day Barney has been an incredible addition to our family. He is the funniest, goofiest, most loving little boy I have ever met, and he brings SO much joy to our lives on a daily basis! I cannot imagine my life without his giant golden personality in it!!
Recently we lost our 14 year old lab girl, Sadie, after a year-long battle with cancer, and Barney is adapting very well to being an “only dog”. In fact, I think he prefers it… as that means MORE LOVE FOR HIM!! J
He’s started “talking” to us, and I swear it’s just the cutest thing you’ve ever seen. This little play bow, followed by a little “howl”. He knows we think it’s adorable, and so if he’s really wanting attention he’ll do it again, and again, and again… leaving us all laughing so hard you could just die!!
His new favorite spot is the front seat of the Jeep! And he loves to go ANYWHERE with me, whether it’s 100 mile road trip, or just a trip to the corner store. He just perches himself in “HIS” seat, and smiles! And, to honor the memory of my first RAGOM golden, Buddy (who went on home visits with me for years), I’ve started taking Barney on RAGOM home visits. This is just HEAVEN for him!! He’s such a social dog!!
He absolutely LOVES everyone in the house, which is incredible. And we love him!!!! He has two kids to play with, sleep with, and love up. And we’ll find him off doing things with the kids that just make you laugh!! Just the other day we found him and my nephew out on the deck, sitting in the chairs…just “chillin’ and talking to each other! And I think he thinks the sun rises and sets with my sister’s little girl!! If she’s around, even I cease to exist!! J
All-in-all, we couldn’t have asked for a better addition to the family. And even as I write this now, he’s curled up in bed with me, getting in his quota of “mom time”.
So, for the second time in 10 years, I’d like to thank RAGOM… for bringing yet another golden love into my life. Maybe when we’ve recovered from the loss of our girl we’ll open up our hearts, and our homes, to #3… but until then, Barney and I will just enjoy the summer, the snuggles, and big golden kisses !!

Good evening RAGOM friends!!
This is Melody, Barney 10-308’s forever mom. Just a quick update on how Barney’s doing!
It’s been almost 2 years now since we took the trek down to IA to meet the golden eyed, golden hearted, love bug that stole our hearts!!
Barney is doing really well, and enjoying the summer! He has a new friend, Hank, who is a 10 year old (adopted) chocolate lab. Barney and Hank are inseparable and enjoying life here in Minnesota!
Life is good, and this little golden love bug is truly the heart of our home!! Life just isn’t life without a golden personality, and Barney has really come into his own personality over the last two years!
While he’s still afraid of the water, we’re trying to ease him into in …and this year, he actually decided to step into the doggie pool! So odd, a “water dog” that’s afraid of the water!J Hopefully by next summer we’ll have him swimming at the lake!
We fenced in the back yard this spring, so now it’s a big ole kid/dog fest out in the back yard every day!! And our smart little boy even learned how to catch a frisbee this summer!!! And he’s actually really good at it! (Not so good at bringing it back…but we’re working on that!)J
The kids absolutely ADORE Barney, and he has completely fallen in love with them! Whenever I want to know where Barney is, all I have to do is look for the kids, and he’s usually on the tail of one of them (or in their bed, laying on their lap in the chair, etc). He really has turned out to be the sweetest, most gentle and loving little boy!!!
I just wanted to say THANK YOU again to all the wonderful folks at RAGOM for all the work they do that makes this kind of match made in heaven possible!!
