Meet Harold! Harold is an 11 year old Golden Retriever/Australian Blue Heeler mix. He was found in the parking lot of a grocery store and taken to the Albert Lea Humane Society. He is neutered and UTD on shots. Harold is mostly blind and doesn't hear well, so he needs extra TLC and patience on walks and a safe environment in the home and backyard.
Harold came to me last week all freshly bathed and handsome thanks to Woof Dah! Inc in Burnsville (Harold and I say thanks again for the complimentary bath!!) He has been adjusting to his new "temporary" home just great! There have been a few hiccups...Harold does NOT like his crate. He went in and snuggled in the fleece blankets with no problem the first day, but the second day barked, whined, and panted very anxiously when I put him in. So I tried gating him into the kitchen and living room, and he has done great all week! No accidents or chewing. One issue was I forgot to shut the bathroom door before I left one day. Oops. Harold managed to shut the door on himself in there, so was trapped all day. Luckily all he did was chew up some toilet paper...I found him curled up on the bath mat snoozing away!
Harold is a sweet senior guy that loves to snuggle. When I pet him he pushes his head under my arm and leans into me. He is so happy to get love and care, he gives me lots of kisses to show his appreciation. Even though he can't see well he finds me in the kitchen when I'm doing dishes or cooking and lays at my feet just to be near me. He would be a great addition to a low-key household without many stairs (or at least the ability to stay on one floor). Harold gets along wonderfully with my resident golden retriever Luna, and has been tested with cats and did great with them too! He hasn't been tested with children yet, but I will do that soon and let you know how it goes.
Harold hopes someone has a forever home for him! He has so much love to give the right family!
Hey everybody! Harold here. I wanted to let you all know how I'm doing here at my foster home. Let me tell you, I looooove having a warm and cozy home! I get my very own bed, food twice a day (even treats sometimes!), all the water I can drink, and lots of petting and snuggling with my foster mom! My favorite is when she sits on the floor so I can curl up right next to her.
Luna also lives here, this is her fur-ever home. She is really nice but is more energetic than me--she sometimes knocks me over on walks and butts in line for petting and treats. But that's okay! I don't mind. I know I'll get my turn. I even give Luna kisses sometimes to let her know I appreciate her sharing her home with me!
My FM took me to the vet the other day, which was NO FUN!! But they told me I am pretty healthy for my age and gave my FM some pills which make my legs and back feel much better. Now I can trot and try to keep up with Luna on walks and am much more comfy.
Well I am getting all set to watch the Oscars tonight so I better go! Please let RAGOM know if you want to meet me!!! I can't wait to find my fur-ever family!
Talk to you soon! Harold
Just checking in to let everyone know how Harold is doing! He is a great part of our household--very easygoing and lovable! I had to bring him back to the vet for some blood work they forgot to do, and luckily everything is just fine. Harold continues to do very well on his pain meds and glucosamine--he is much more peppy on walks and around the house. I can't wait for when the snow melts so he can play more in the backyard! Right now the icy snow is a little too treacherous for him, with his limited sight. I also can't wait to take him to the lake and see if he likes swimming!
Harold seems to be enjoying life more and more every day. His tail wags a lot now and he is such a snuggler! Please contact RAGOM if you think he would be a good fit for your family!
Harold is camera shy...
Harold and Luna Snoozing...
Hi Guys! Harold here. Sorry it's been so long since I've updated everybody, but whoa have I been BUSY! First, my foster mom went on vacation so I got to stay with my buddy Amy (we met when she picked me up at the shelter and brought me to my new temporary home). I had a lot of fun with her, although I did have some accidents in the house. I just wasn't used to the new place, so I forgot I had to wait until I got outside! Amy also brought me to a RAGOM event, where I met lots of people and dogs, and got lots of petting, which I love!
Then we've been having some houseguests. Frankie, a 3 year old boxer, has been staying with us. He has even more energy than Luna!! He was a little too playful with me sometimes, but I just gave him a little growl and he got the message. After that we were buddies. I even snoozed on his bed (which, as you know, is my favorite activity!)
I have been loving the Spring weather. I get to take walks with Luna and my foster mom, and explore the backyard with my nose (since my eyes don't work so well).
Well, that's about all that is new with me! Thank you so much for the pretty Spring pictures on my website! My foster mom showed them to me and they really brightened my day! The only thing better would be to get a new forever family of my very own!!
Talk to you soon!
|It is with great sadness that I tell you Harold left us this morning. He was in his favorite place, snuggled next to me, and peacefully drifted off to sleep. Thank you, Harold, for spending your last months with me and Luna, and thank you RAGOM for bringing Harold into our lives.
We will miss you here, but know you are in a place where you can see and hear again, and are running and jumping with your playmates.
