Abe
Abe #11-391
(Fostered in Deer River, MN)

I am so excited to introduce you all to Abe!! He is one HUGE dog, he comes weighing in at 114 lbs. This is not terribly overweight. He could stand to lose maybe 10 lbs. but that still keeps him over 100 lbs.! He looks ALL Golden and gives the Golden nudge , but if you look closely at his face you will see around his eyes and cheeks he has really long hairs and whiskers, he also has this long hair between his toes. His temp foster thought that maybe a little Irish Wolfhound and that sure fits the bill and this would explain why he is so big! But other than the long hairs he looks nothing like an Irish wolfhound and all Golden, so who knows.

He is the sweetest boy, we are guessing his age to be between 3-6 so not exactly sure on this, so we are calling him 4.5! He is fully housetrained and did come from a loving home - you can tell because he is very sociable, friendly, easy going guy and does sit, stay, lay down! But on the other hand they left him abandoned in a foreclosed home!! We are working on fetching and so far does fine with free roam! He does get along with other dogs and cats but it's possible he gets a little snarly at dogs when he is eating if they come too close, I have not experienced this yet. He loves to ride in the car. Loves kids. He is very mellow in the house and does respect baby gates, even though he could walk right over them (LOL)! He walks well on leash, loves to eat snow. He makes this funny grunting sound while he sleeps. Does not seem to know his name, so not sure if this is his real name or got it at the shelter he was in. So if you are looking for a big, lovable, slow moving, mellow guy, he is the one for you!!

I want to thank Jen and Barry for taking good care of Abe until he could get to me!

UPDATES:

So Abe who we call Big Timber which fits him perfectly at 114lbs is doing great. He is a fabulous dog, very mellow even though he is so big! He is very gentle also, the only time you know he is a Big dog is when you are walking along and he decides to stop to smell or something. It is pretty hard to nudge a 114 lb. dog, but he walks very well on leash. His recall is not great but we are working on that! He is just an all around great dog, he has had free roam from day one and no problems what so ever. He gets very excited when you ask him if he wants to go outside or go for a walk, he sometimes even answers with a bark, that is about the only time we hear him bark!

He is going in for possible x-rays next week if he still shows signs of pain in his hips, so time will tell on that. He has a family coming to visit also. We will be letting you how that goes of course! So for now enjoy the pictures of this big, beautiful, boy!

Abe is going home with his furever family today! Thanks to the H family for giving him a great home! They are changing his name to Charlie.

This boy will be missed, he was as close to perfect as you can get!!

We are so grateful to have Charlie a part of our family and will be his forever home. Just like Bobbie Jo said Charlie is as close to perfect as you can get. He is a gentle giant. He gets along great with our previously fearful of dogs cat schroedinger. He has the most gentle mouth when taking a treat, doesn't beg, he doesn't pull on a leash, rides great in car, and sooo smart. He's learned stop feet in 2 days so when he comes in doors he stops so we can wipe his feet off. Does great in unfenced yard and learned the boundaries really quick. We are going to obedience classes and having fun with the other 2 little dogs. I think they laughed when they saw Charlie at 114# get out of a Volkswagen beetle when they have trucks for their smaller dogs. We do have an SUV but didn't use it and he's totally happy in the back seat of the bug. Charlie is so gentle also with other dogs. Planning to get him certified as a therapy dog as he definitely has the right temperament. Thanks again to his foster Mom Bobbie Jo and all the other foster people who helped bring Charlie to MN and Ragom. We are so thankful we get to have him in our lives!!!!!
