Shadow is a 6½ year-old neutered Golden Retriever/Lab mix. He is at his perfect weight of 92½ pounds. Shadow is a mellow, gentle, loving, sweet boy. Not much is known about Shadow’s first five years. He was a stray 1½ years ago and was starving and freezing to death. Shadow is blind in one eye. Some kind people took him in, nursed him back to health and kept him as long as they could before turning him over to RAGOM to find his perfect home.
During the past 1½ years, Shadow has lived with children from 3 to 13 years old. He has even allowed the 3 year-old to color on his face! He has lived with a cat and a male dog with no issues. He is currently living with an 8 month old foster fur-brother and an 8 year-old foster fur-sister. Shadow is a quiet pacifist. He has been to the vet and is UTD on shots, is heartworm free and micro chipped. He gave everyone at the vet kisses. Shadow does not jump up. He is completely house trained. He knows his basic obedience commands – and obeys them. He walks well on a leash. Shadow loves car rides. He jumps right in, settles down and enjoys the ride. He likes to be in the same room with his people (possibly the source of his name, Shadow?). He stays off the furniture. He is not a boy who needs constant attention. This is probably the lowest maintenance dog I have ever met. Feed him, brush him, love him and take him with when you run errands or go on walks, and in exchange, Shadow will love you forever. Pretty wonderful deal in my book!
Shaadow is an instant best friend and valued family member. I truly can not think of a family this boy would not fit into. If you are interested in meeting the perfect gentleman, email Placement today and ask to meet Shadow 05-112.

On Saturday afternoon, Shadow met his forever family at the door. He gave me a thank you kiss before leading his family to their car and jumping in. I admit to shedding a tear as he rode off into the sunset to enjoy his Golden life with the S. family.
From Shadow's forever family...
After I saw the request for Happy Endings, I just had to send ours in! Below are a couple of photos of Shadow and my daughter Maddie :>
At the time, my daughter was 2 years old and we had just lost our black lab suddenly. I had worked so hard to make sure baby & my lab peacefully co-existed. I knew we wanted another dog, but was quite worried about finding a good match. A number of our neighbors had worked with Ragom and recommended it highly!
Long story short - Ragom found us the PERFECT dog!!!! It has been 4 years now and I can say that Shadow is a wonderful old gentleman. He loves kids, cats, other dogs and enjoys meeting people on Grand Avenue. When he goes to a kennel on occasion, they tell us that he is a model visitor! Having only one good eye is not really a problem for him....fetch is still his favorite game. I work at home & he is my constant companion - always hoping for a treat :>
I am so grateful for Ragom! We hope for many more years with our wonderful guy, but when the time comes we will be back for another Senior. Thank you for everything you do for these dogs who are so important in our lives!

| Hi - Have been meaning to write this for a while, but still sort of feel like a part of me is missing..... Our perfect gentleman, Shadow, went over the Rainbow Bridge on 2/22/10. We learned that he had prostate cancer at the end of January. We tried a variety of meds but none of them worked very well and Shadow went down hill quickly. I think he was comfortable right up until the last day or so and he passed away peacefully on my lap, looking as if he was just taking a nap. What a wonderful dog he was - he loved food, other dogs, cats, kids, balls and brushing. I think of him every day at the bus stop! I wish I could have had him his whole life; however, I am eternally grateful to RAGOM for all they did for him and for connecting us with such a special animal!! Kathleen S. |
