Profile

Katy is a gorgeous 5 ½ year old PB golden. She was surrendered due to financial problems and is living here in South Dakota. Katy has been with us a couple days and is doing fantastic.

Here is what we know at this time:

  • She was an only dog at her prior home since last August; she was adopted from the local shelter here in Sioux Falls, SD at that time
  • She is a reddish golden with beautiful feathering and approximately 80#
  • She is spayed, UTD and micro-chipped
  • She is currently on an antibiotic for a hot spot and also ear meds
  • She gets along with all dogs
  • She gets along with all cats
  • She has no aggressions
  • She rides well/great in a car
  • She loves people and attention

Katy is a totally incredible girl. She is a typical golden who loves attention and wants to be petted. She enjoys being brushed. We have not had her but a couple days now but she is great. Before coming into Ragom, she was an only dog for the past 8-9 months (since –July August 2009). Prior to that it is my understanding she lived with a family who had children. She was surrendered the first time due to ‘no time for her’ and this last time (current) was due to financial hardship(s). Since she has been in our foster care, she has enjoyed the ‘pack’ we have. 3 dogs and 3 cats. Katy is fine with all of them. If nothing else, a little shy. She has no aggressions or obsessions. Katy is a real wonderful golden! She knows sit, stay, ‘crawl’ when to come and get a treat. She knows commands and listens very well. We do not know her all that well but she is one very smart girl! I truly think she really enjoys having other dog(s) around and would rather have at least a companion canine for her future. She takes treats nicely. She is very good to go ‘outside’ and go potty and then come in and ‘wait’ on the rug. She really wants to be by humans…..

I took Katy on a walk today and she did fine for a few blocks and then stopped---I really believe she is quite worried and apprehensive at this time of new surroundings, etc. and is a little scared yet of a new neighborhood, etc.. When we did walk, she walked just beautiful and I feel she is worried once again about being left. [As always, I used a harness.] I feel there has been much change in her past and she needs a very stable environment, with not a lot of changes.

Katy comes back when called and is fine in our yard with a fence. However, I do feel she will be fine without a fence[once she has her confidence and loyalties in place]. (She listens very well). We will have a vet visit in a couple days to re-check everything. Her prior owner stated she may have allergies but we are not sure of that. She is currently being treated with an antibiotic for a hot spot and drops for ear infection. More to come on that but she is basically all healed up and appears to be doing fine—we will know more soon. She takes her meds just fine. Katy is really enjoying another dog and companionship. She is a real lovely girl to foster. What a stunning golden! More to come………
