Meet Sir Archie! :) This dog is so fabulous he deserves a royal title! Archie is a 7 year old, neutered, purebred Golden Retriever. He is medium golden color with a very soft coat and a little white frosting on his face. He has shorter legs, and is overweight by at least 20 lbs (maybe even closer to 30!) he is somewhere around the 100 lb. mark.... which is way too much for his frame. He will look even more fantastic when he gets down to a healthy weight. We can help Archie with that.... even though he isn't thrilled about it, his diet has already started! Even with the extra pounds this boy loves to walk and run and especially likes to fetch tennis balls! So, the exercise portion of his weight loss plan will be no problem... Archie is game! He just isn't so sure about the green beans and carrots... kinda like my 1 1/2 yr old son... they can pout together :)
Archie came into RAGOM because his surrendering owner was financially and physically unable to care for him anymore. He was with her for 6 months and was obviously well loved... this guy came with so much stuff I didn't know if it would all fit in my SUV! Before he was with his last owner Archie worked as a service dog! Yes... he is a trained service dog! He is amazing! We were given a list of a few commands and Archie does them faithfully. He was, in the past, completely trained on many commands but since they haven't been regularly used or practiced he doesn't remember them all. I am sure with brushing up and practice he could be in top form again. He performs the command "get" perfectly. He will pick up anything and everything you drop if you ask him to "get"... it is so cool. I promise I am not using Archie to clean up the play room :) One other command that Archie does perfectly is "under". When you say "under" when you are sitting at a chair he will lay down under you, or next to you... since he is a big boy he doesn't always fit under the chair :) He stays there until you tell ask him to do something else. Now do you see why he needs that royal title!??
We are in LOVE and it is easy to see why. Sir Archie is a perfect house guest. He gets along with the resident dogs, and kid, and husband perfectly! He loves everyone. He rides perfectly in the car and walks pretty well on a leash (a little pulling), he is also a super duper snuggler! A house that allows dogs on the furniture is a must with this love bug. Really they don't get much better than this! We are still getting to know Archie and aren't quite sure what he needs in a forever home yet (except for the couch thing!), but stay tuned! Archie visits the vet tomorrow... we will get the official number on the scale (we are bringing a blindfold for Arch... he already told me he doesn't want to look!) and we will get him all up to date on vaccines and all checked out. More later!
