Please welcome Archie 12-371 to RAGOM! This three year old, pure bred golden boy is a wait list guy. He is sure one to have been waiting for! Here’s what potential adopters need to know about Archie:

First and foremost, Mister Archie has allergies, so his new home must be committed to feeding, bathing and vetting to keep his allergies at bay. He was surrendered to RAGOM because his previous family could not afford to care for his allergies. When Archie arrived at our home a week ago, the first thing we noticed was he has no undercoat or feathering, his top coat and skin were oily and he had multiple scabs all over his body. At the vet, we learned he also had an ear infection. His treatment thus far is as follows:

  • Daily ear drops and twice weekly cleaning
  • Two weeks of twice daily antibiotic
  • Prednisone with a taper- now on once daily for the next 4 days going to every other day after that until his pills are gone.
  • Medicated baths- he had his first one last Monday and will have his second one on the 19th
  • Recheck with the vet on the 29th for a determination of maintenance medication
  • Switched to an A+ rated food

With all the vet care (thanks Dr. Stephanie), Archie could sure use a SPONSOR!! Archie is now mostly scab free- the undercoat will take some time to fill in as will his “bald spots”; he no longer scratches and enjoys his new diet. Other attributes of this handsome guy are:

  • He’s neutered & 93 pounds
  • Current on all shots including heartworm and flea/tick prevention
  • House trained and crate trained- He has free roam of our home now
  • Walks very nicely with his gentle leader- pulls too much on a flat collar (93#!!)
  • Is kind and respectful to our resident dog- likes to play but knows when to stop
  • No anxiety or resource guarding issues-was a very well loved dog at his past home
  • Has been trained to invisible fence at his previous home and enjoys our fenced yard

There is so much more to say about Archie- like he loves to “spoon” at night in bed, but he also sleeps on the floor. His temperament is perfect- mellow- doesn’t jump and rarely barks unless there is a squirrel in the tree or someone at the door. I’m trying to put it all in one update because I think this beautiful boy will find his forever home quickly. I bet your contacting your placement advisor right now!!
