Ms. Cara, as we call her, is a real beauty. Check out her photo after a recent grooming at Ollu in Mpls. She has it all, the good looks of an English Crème white Golden, a sweet personality, and a good weight (54 lbs.) for her age (2.5 years).

Cara has been living with us in Fridley since we picked her up on Friday, August 19. She arrived in a van full of 5 siblings from a breeder in western ND, no longer in the business. After a quick wash at Jane's house, and the help of a lot of wonderful volunteers, we took her home. This was not easy as we had to carry her in and out of the car and into the house. You see, Cara has all of the characteristics of a puppy mill Mama. She is shy, afraid of stairs, loud noises, new people and most things that we all have in our homes – such as dishwashers, vacuum cleaners, hair dryers and fans.

Having lived in a barn and an outside kennel, she is also not housebroken. We are working hard on that part. Until today, we went outside with her several times a day to make sure she was taking care of business. Even though she has a great mentor in our 4 year-old resident Golden, Cara is not totally confidant yet. So when she is inside, she is on a tether leash and taken out whenever she appears nervous. It’s taken many small steps, but I think she’s finally beginning to understand the difference between outside and inside. When she is in her crate, she keeps it clean. She sleeps in the crate at night and is quite good there until about 6 a.m. when she barks to let us know she’s ready for the day to begin – whether we are or not!

Three days ago, we reached a new milestone when the whole family took a short walk around the block. On a Gentle Leader, and with our resident dog close by, she seemed excited to try something new. Another longer walk today and I’d say she’s getting the hang of it.

Cara is up-to-date on all her shots and will be spayed this week. She needs to spend a little more time with us learning how to fit into a real family. One thing is certain, her “furever” home must have a resident dog, a fenced yard, and no children under ten.

We’ll be posting more information soon. It won’t be long before she’ll be ready to enjoy her new Golden life with you. If you’re interested, notify your placement advisor as Cara could soon be yours!
