7/3/06: Introducing the Cowboy! I picked him up last Thursday from a family who surrendered him because they didn't have enough time for him, and wow...he is one BIG boy! The initial belief was that he was 115 lbs, but when I took him into the vet, he was only a slender 105 lbs at the tender age of 3 years. This boy really needed to be put on a diet! Right now, he's on Nutro Natural Choice Lite, and not liking it one little bit. Diet food just doesn't taste as good as the fatty stuff I guess. Cowboy is stocky, but he's actually a fairly tall boy, with beautiful darkish red curls, and the cutest face ever!
He went to the vet on Friday, and besides the weight issue, he only has a few things that are being treated. He has ear infections in both ears, and a staph infection in his skin. His ears are clearing up wonderfully with the goop that we put in twice a day, and after some medicated baths, his skin is also clearing up nicely. Cowboy will only be on the ear meds for a total of two weeks, and after one or two more baths, the staph should be cured! He's also neutered, and UTD on all of his vaccs and heartworm preventative.
I've had him for a bit now, and nothing seems to phase this boy besides the fireworks. But, as long as he's with my 7 year old resident girl, he stays calm. I was told that he was an outside dog, but you could never guess by the way he acts in the house. He is just SO at home! He thinks that all of the furniture is for his enjoyment and napping pleasure, but is learning that maybe that isn't the case after all. We still have not had an accident in the house, and I doubt we EVER will. He's so well mannered, and wants to be with you at all times. Cowboy is a one-in-a-million type of dog! Sweet, fantastic with kids (even lots of them), great with the kitties, gets along with all other dogs, stays right with you, and best of all..........HE'S A WATER DOG!
Cowboy is the definition of a Golden Retriever, and would make any family extremely happy! If you'd like to come meet him and say 'howdy', please e-mail [email protected]. This beautiful boy shouldn't be available for adoption for long, and is encouraging every family he meets to apply!
