In Memory of Bruce Berntson Bruce had a passion and love for Golden Retrievers. He loved his dogs, Bernie and Chica who had passed on some time ago but Bruce would often tell us stories about them. His son just recently shared a story how he remembers traveling to Utah with his dad (Bruce) and stopping at a McDonalds along the way for a burger. His dad took Bernie out for a walk and then they sat in the kids playground area outside and his son went and bought the food which included two hamburgers for Bernie. His dad sat Bernie at the table outside with the both of them and fed Bernie the hamburgers and fries. He said people gave them some looks and his dad just chuckled. |

Hello Ragom! My name is Gracie and I am approximately 2 years of age. I was a stray that ended up in an Iowa shelter so we are not really sure my exact age, but we are thinking between 2-3 years of age. The people at the shelter loved me and were very sad to find out that I was heartworm positive. Because of the Immiticide shortage (that’s the drug that treats heartworms) they had nothing to treat me with so they made the fabulous decision to turn me over to RAGOM’s care so that I can begin to live the Golden life. I am a beautiful medium colored Golden with long feathering. My coat is a little dry, but that will shape right up with some good nutrition.
I am housetrained, know sit and shake, and I am slowly working on being crate trained. I am completely fine once I am in the crate, but you have to lead me in there right now as I spent 2 months at a shelter so I would rather just not be in a kennel. I love to play fetch, but am still working on giving up the ball and I also like nylabones and destuffing soft toys. I am a medium energy Golden and will need to be exercised daily in my forever home.
I am currently around dogs from 30-100lbs and do well with all of them. I love to play, but I am the submissive type and will back down when I am told enough is enough. I am interested in cats, but have done well with the two that live in my foster home. I love people and I love attention just like any other Golden. I have not shown any aggression or anxiety since being in my foster home and am a really easy girl to have around. My only fault so far is I can be a runner if I get out. I have gotten away from foster dad once and foster mom once and had fun running around the neighborhood while they chased me. I would probably do best with a fence but right now I have a tie out and do great with that as long as I don’t slip through the door. I do well when riding in the car and have been walking well on the gentle leader every day. All around I am one great Golden girl and cannot wait to find the perfect forever home!
