Profile

Gunner entered the RAGOM family on Sunday, September 12, and is being fostered in rural Rochester.  He was surrendered by a family with three young children (youngest 4) because of a pending divorce with mom having to work overtime hours which meant Gunner spent long hours crated.  Gunner is a 7-month-old beautiful dark reddish-golden PB GR who weighs 62.9 pounds.  Gunner is healthy, UTD with all his shots (needs a booster of one in a month), had heart worm medication and Frontline.  Yesterday was his neuter surgery so today he is feeling a lot more like himself.  Dr. M. and the vet techs thought he was gorgeous!

Gunner is a happy-go-lucky young man with no apparent aggressions noted to date.  He has survived the first week with our snarky resident and totally ignored him and his growling.  He will give up toys to the resident dog without a fuss or will let us take something away that he shouldn’t have.  As with most puppies, we have had to puppy proof our home and make sure the grandkids (he was great with them) pick up all of the plastic animals, blocks, doll house furniture, etc.  FD now keeps his reading glasses in the drawer of the end table.  Gunner is very good at finding anything left on the floor or at his level of reach.   If the opportunity arose, I am sure he would also check out what he could reach on your counter or table.  He needs reminders to help him learn “house manners.”

Gunner is currently living with two house cats and had a cat in his previous home—the braver of our two cats will rub up against him but the timid one will run and hide.  He does not hurt them but wants to smell and check them out.  Sometimes he pats them with his paw and pushes them with his nose--that is what the timid one does not like.  He does, however, watch for my outside cats and will chase them if they run.  He is currently on a 50’ tie-out and does well.  I am sure he would love to have a fenced yard where he could run free.

Gunner loves kids and would never hurt them but with his energy and puppy excitement would knock small children down.  He gets along fine with our dog and I believe dog savvy house cats would be fine with reminder reinforcement to “leave them alone.”   Since he is only 9 months old, obedience training would definitely be of benefit to him to help him learn the rules of life.  Gunner has not had an accident since he arrived so I would consider him housetrained.  At this time, he needs to burn off excessive puppy energy by playing with you or another dog, walking, jogging, or even agility training since he is very agile.  He can entertain himself for a long time by throwing balls in the air and trying to catch them but also loves to sit next to you to be petted.  He is currently crated when we do errands and at night so he stays out of trouble.  We did a day long car trip last week and he did fine—checked the back of the van out and eventually settled down to sleep.  He pulls hard on a flat collar but does much better on a Gentle Leader once he stops bucking to get it off.  Once he matures, he will be the greatest pet ever and has so much love to give!  If you are interested in this beautiful young man, please let your placement advisor know.
