Hawkeye has arrived! Can you guess from which state he is from? If you guessed Iowa, you are right. Though he wasn't named after the Iowa Hawkeyes, he was named after the character Hawkeye in M*A*S*H. Hawkeye loves to sit and watch helicopters fly by if they are out.
Hawkeye is a big boy, weighing in around 90 pounds. He has a beautiful thick, wavy coat. He came to RAGOM because his family could not continue to give him the attention that he needed. Hawkeye is blind in one eye but you would never know it as he has had this condition his entire life. He has had a few seizures in his life, but because they have happened so rarely he is not on medicine for them. He loves kids and to ride in cars. He is good with other dogs too. He has met my two resident dogs and after a few growls, he knows his place with them.
Hawkeye tends to pull when on a leash but he is used to running when going out (his dad would take him running). I think he would walk fine if he got to go running with someone first to burn off some energy. He doesn't bark much. In fact, he traveled up to his foster home with another dog in the back and the other dog barked quite a lot and Hawkeye would just turn and look at him! He is a typical Golden in that he sheds but he loves to be vacuumed - how easy is that to take care of all those dog hairs? I think he would be a lap dog given half a chance because he loves pets and attention.
Hawkeye goes to the vet tomorrow to get caught up on his shots and later this week he will be neutered. If you are looking for a big teddy bear to snuggle and play with, Hawkeye is your boy.
