Introducing new RAGOM girl, Hope. She is 6 years old until her birthday on July 8th. She is a beautiful girl. Her coat has about four different shades of red and she is blond on her belly. Hope came into RAGOM because she was reported to have storm anxiety. We have not had any storms so I am not able to report on that yet. Her previous family gave her a medication when it would storm outside. She also was put into her kennel with a blanket over it to keep her calm during storms. Hope does respond well to a Thundershirt, so she will need one in her future forever home.

Hope on day two in foster care

Hope is spayed, heartworm free, received vetting last Monday where the vet said she was healthy. Hope is 61 lbs and the vet thought she could lose 3 lbs or so. One thing Hope’s surrender paperwork says is that she has Lyme’s. She is not systematic at this time. She is now on heartworm preventative, flea and tick preventative and is happily living with her foster brother, Jack, and feline foster sister, Sachi. Hope just ignores the cat; she is getting used to Jack and seems protective of him while on play dates. She likes to make sure any other dogs know that Jack is her foster brother by putting herself between Jack and a playmate. It is cute to see her love him so much.

Hope was reported to be a timid dog. I have watched her with Jack and she seems to have quite a bit of confidence. She will go into and out of the house either before Jack or after him. She is starting to follow him outside around the yard and got a little snarky when Jack went for her tennis ball, but it was just dog talk for “that’s mine.” Jack understood and left the ball alone.

Hope spent the first two nights in her kennel without a peep. She now sleeps on the floor beside my bed. Both Jack and Hope go into their own kennels when I leave the house. I think Hope would be fine with having free roam (she had that in her last home per the family). She has not had any accidents at all in the house or in her kennel. She does not appear to have any separation anxieties. She did have a moment when the neighbor lit off some firecrackers. She did become nervous and would not leave my side. We were not outside for the 4th.

Hope’s favorite things are being petted and playing fetch. I am positive if she could find a way to have both at the same time, she would be beyond happy. Hope would LOVE to have a Chuck-it in her forever home. We used one yesterday afternoon and she was the group “Olympian” in fetch.

Waiting for you to throw that ball!

Hope will need a family who will give her the exercise she needs. My yard is on the small side, but we have dog friends we go visit to have playtime and lots of exercise. She loves to play in the small kiddie pool too. She could be fine as an only dog, but I think she would love to have a sister or brother to play with. Hope will romp and play, but she will not rough house. She does get less nervous in the car when Jack is with her. She jumps right up into my car when we go anywhere.

Hope after her swim

Outside, Hope will be in constant motion until she gets tired. However, when she comes inside, she is a perfect lady. I have put most of the toys away to start, so Jack and Hope don’t have anything to argue over. I took out a couple and Hope has become a bit attached to a small bear that she has partially destuffed. She does not seem protective of any of the inside toys.

Hope is a wonderful, sweet girl that is very ready for her forever home. If you are interested in Hope, let your placement advisor know.
