Big dog equals big love in the case of this full-size blonde boy. Handsome Hunter has been with me for a week and the list of positive traits just keeps getting longer.
He is so good natured and familiar with all the basic commands: sit, stay, shake, lay down, etc. He was great with the children at our National Night Out Block Party. He gets along well with other dogs, no resource guarding. He rides well in a vehicle (although he can use a little boost getting in). He has free reign of the house while I am at work and hasn’t had any accidents or separation anxiety issues. He also seems unaffected by loud noises.
He is neutered and has been brought up-to-date on his vaccines. Also, all of his lab work was normal. On the down side, he does have some stiff rear limbs that need further investigation after we bring his weight down. This clever fellow is the only dog I’ve known that figured out how to open my dog food bin…not helping with the weight loss goals, smarty Hunter. We just started giving Hunter a joint supplement and an anti-inflammatory pain med to help manage his joint pain. He came to me at 90 lbs and we want to get hime down to 70-75 lbs. We will keep you posted on that progress.
In spite of his stiff limbs, he is very lively and wants to play fetch constantly. He is quite masterful at catching air balls. Have ball, will travel, as he carries a ball with him on our walks. I am trying to balance his diet and activity by taking easy-going walks until he builds up more muscle.
Next weekend he has a play date with George the cat for the whole weekend. I have a hunch they will get along just fine! Stay tuned.
