Welcome to RAGOM Kiah!
Kiah (pronounced with a long I) and her litter mate Kaylee 08 326 arrived in Minneapolis yesterday from South Dakota. Thanks to her rescuers Rona and Kristin in SD and Dave in MN! The sisters were welcomed by many RAGOM volunteers who were attending a picnic. Both dogs headed straight for the kiddie pool to cool off!
Kiah was surrendered because her owners have 6 kids and didn't have time for her anymore. Kiah will be 8 yo in July. She is a Cream Colored Purebred Golden Retriever. She is cute as can be and a bit timid. She looks to her sister Kaylee to lead the way. It's so adorable how they kiss each other when they pass!
Kiah has been a bit overshadowed by her sister and it shows in the weight difference. Even though Kiah is overweight, it's clear Kaylee got most of the food! Unfortunately, Kiah has been chewing on her tail the past few weeks. Chewing to the point that the bone is exposed. She was seen by Dr. J today at VCA Animal Care Hospital in Richfield and she recommends that her tail be amputated. We will have that done this coming Wednesday.
Kiah is a sweetheart and tolerated the manipulations and dressing change on her tail so well. You know it must've hurt! Poor girl! Kiah is still quite anxious about the huge change in her life in the last 36 hours. It will be wonderful to see her relax and come out of her shell. More to come as we get to know her.
