8/20/06: Fr. Gene...Lola here. Well, now I finally know what "going up north" means...a couple real nice ladies drove me to this place, probably what you call a cabin, and the first thing I did when I got out of this lady's van was run down and put my paws in the water. No, I didn't wade out too far and ruin my new "do," but today, I'm going to try to catch some of those wiggly things in the water and maybe, I said MAYBE, I'll go out on that dock-thing by myself. The lady took some pictures of me. (Remember, I'm the cute one.)

When it got dark, Fr. Gene, I hope it wasn't too scary for you without me there to protect you. Guess what? I was doing my job by watching over this lady up here in this cabin place. I'm not sure how she got along before I arrived with only these two lazy boy dogs here, but she told me how happy she was to have me laying right beside her bed. (Remember, I'm the protector one.)

So, Fr. Gene, you can tell I'll have my paws full here for awhile teaching these boys about watching over their human and they'll need me to show them a few manners, too. Of course, you can count on me to always be on my best behavior. (Remember, I'm the good one.)

And guess what else? This lady here remembered the ear medicine and to give me my peanut butter treat before bedtime. Then she gave me and my foster brothers our nightly blessing...

May the Lord bless you and keep you.

May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you.

May the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.

Oh, it was nowhere as good as yours, Fr. Gene, but what can you expect...she's a Lutheran.

Fr. Gene...one more thing. LuAnn and Lula and me, Lola, will always love you. Thank you for caring for us and loving us so much.

Please keep us in your prayers as you are in ours :)

On Friday, Lola was adopted by Nancy and Cece. She jumped in the back seat and was supposed to ride near the rear of the car, but quickly took over Cece's spot and would not move.

Lola was the perfect foster dog and I miss her already, but she's been invited back for visits whenever Nancy goes on vacation.

Just a quick note about our visit this week to the local nursing home for their group Sing Along. Lola had free rein and I thought she was going to wag her rear end off as she moved up and down the rows of wheelchairs to greet and be greeted. One resident, with tears in her eyes, said, "I've got a dog just like her at home," and a lady next to her said, "Me, too." Maybe so/maybe no, but it was heartwarming to see that for about an hour, Lola brought back some beautiful memories for our seniors. Oh yes, Lola has been invited back for an encore appearance next week. Good girl!

The temperatures have been wonderful so we've spent lots of time outside. Lola does well walking with a flat leash and that's necessary in order to manipulate three leashes at a time. Can't figure out why, but she'll reach down and pick up an acorn or two to eat during our walk although I've told her they're best left for the squirrels and deer. Late morning, rain or shine, we all take a hike on an old logging trail through the woods, although Lola prefers to run through the long grass alongside the trail. Rabbits and small animals beware!

Now until next time, we wish you long days and pleasant nights :)

Hey...it's Lola again. By the way, this lady here is real nice, but her updates are pretty boring (blah blah blah) so I'm going to tell you what's new without half-putting you to sleep. You're welcome.

But say, I've got a question...do you like my beauty mark? If you missed it before (like you-know-who), here's a hint...just look for the up and down lines by my eyes and what do you see? Yup, it's a cross and it's for real.

Now, you already know that I'm cute, protective and good so here's the other stuff: I'm smart (sit down for treats), mannerly (wouldn't think of counter-surfing or getting up on furniture), patient (don't bark or make a fuss when the lady closes the door behind her), gentle (people always say they love my gentle ways), as well as thoughtful and polite (see first paragraph)..

So now I'm wondering if you're the one who wants me to share your life with you? Would you promise to love, honor and obey? Oh, now you can tell I'm also the funny one :)

In the meantime, I'm crossing my paws and saying my prayers every night for my very own family and it would be awfully nice if they have another furbutt who looks kinda like me.
