Jovi was rescued from a slaughterhouse by a Buddhist woman in the mountains near Beijing. He and Mama 19-117 were rescued together and their luck changed! RAGOM volunteers went over to China and brought them back to Minnesota.
While Jovi was still in the shelter in China, he was attacked by another dog and suffered a bad wound to his neck that got infected. A vet cleaned it out and inserted a drain. He still has an orange-sized lump. Our RAGOM vet, Dr. Heidi at Rum River Veterinary Clinic, aspirated the lump and found a few bacteria but mostly inflammatory tissue.
Due to the trauma to his neck during the fight, he also has a salivary mucocele under his left ear. The salivary gland has been torn and is leaking into the tissue. Neither of these seem painful to Jovi and he loves to have the neck lump scratched. He has started a course of antibiotics, but Dr. Heidi thinks that both will need to be repaired surgically.
Jovi is very athletic and loves to bound around the back yard! He also likes to wrestle with my boy Tannin. I don’t think Jovi ever had a toy of his own and is like a kid in a candy store with all the toys around the yard.
He loves to chase a tennis ball and always beats Tannin to them. He hoards a pile of toys but still wants whatever toy Tannin has. He will push his way in and take the ball. One time they had a tussle over a toy and now there are no more toys around!
I think Jo-jo would prefer to be an only dog where he has no competition for toys or the love of his people. And he deserves all the love he can get. He is VERY sweet. He knows “sit” and is quickly picking up on other signals. No doubt he will be a lovely well-mannered dog after a few obedience classes.
