Profile

Jovi is one of several dogs RAGOM rescued from China's illegal meat trade. While in rescue in China, Jovi was attacked by another dog. The resulting wounds will likely need surgery. He is an athletic boy who requires that any children in the home be age 10+. Jovi can be highly possessive of toys and would do best as an only dog. He does not require a physical fence, but this canine athlete will require lots of exercise. Dog parks may not be a good fit for Jovi because of his toy possessiveness.

Jovi was adopted by a wonderful family that fell in love with him at a recent Meet & Greet. They have already bought him several toys and signed him up for obedience classes. He is so loved and didn't even look back when they came to pick him up.

Jovi has been here nearly three weeks and has really settled in. He wrestles with my male resident, Tannin, and loves to tear around the yard. Jo proved he is able to live peacefully in a home with other dogs. We were sitting for two dogs plus with my two resident dogs he did great. Absolutely no issues.

I have put some toys back out in the yard. Jo and Tannin play separately with them. Neither tries to take the other’s toy and all is well. I should also say that Jo-Jo has never had any issues with people taking his toys or even his food. And he has a very soft mouth when taking treats.

He’s a very sweet boy! Sleeps through the night, no accidents in the house, and has free roam when we are gone.

He will be having surgery June 27, to address the wound on his neck, but he is ready to meet his forever family now.

Jovi will be at the Meet & Greet at the Roseville Chuck & Dons this coming Saturday (June 22). Come meet this wonderful boy!

Jovi was rescued from a slaughterhouse by a Buddhist woman in the mountains near Beijing. He and Mama 19-117 were rescued together and their luck changed! RAGOM volunteers went over to China and brought them back to Minnesota.

While Jovi was still in the shelter in China, he was attacked by another dog and suffered a bad wound to his neck that got infected. A vet cleaned it out and inserted a drain. He still has an orange-sized lump. Our RAGOM vet, Dr. Heidi at Rum River Veterinary Clinic, aspirated the lump and found a few bacteria but mostly inflammatory tissue.

Due to the trauma to his neck during the fight, he also has a salivary mucocele under his left ear. The salivary gland has been torn and is leaking into the tissue. Neither of these seem painful to Jovi and he loves to have the neck lump scratched. He has started a course of antibiotics, but Dr. Heidi thinks that both will need to be repaired surgically.

Jovi is very athletic and loves to bound around the back yard! He also likes to wrestle with my boy Tannin. I don’t think Jovi ever had a toy of his own and is like a kid in a candy store with all the toys around the yard.

He loves to chase a tennis ball and always beats Tannin to them. He hoards a pile of toys but still wants whatever toy Tannin has. He will push his way in and take the ball. One time they had a tussle over a toy and now there are no more toys around!

I think Jo-jo would prefer to be an only dog where he has no competition for toys or the love of his people. And he deserves all the love he can get. He is VERY sweet. He knows “sit” and is quickly picking up on other signals. No doubt he will be a lovely well-mannered dog after a few obedience classes.
