Profile

Mabel is a RAGOM alum who was returned because the home wasn't a good fit for Mabel. She is healthy and sweet, but because of her rambunctious energy and minor resource guarding, she needs a home with older children or no children. Mabel enjoys other dogs and would like a home with a dog companion or dog neighbors to play with. A fence is preferred so Mabel can run and burn off energy, but she could adapt to a tie-out. Mabel's future family should plan to provide training and regular exercise.

Mabel here! I have been having a lot of fun with my foster family. We go for walks and have lots of play time outside. My favorite toy and game is a rope and playing tug. It is so much fun. I also like running around the backyard with my foster siblings.

I have gone on one trip with my foster mom. It was all the way to Kansas City. I rode so nice in the back seat of the car. I like looking out the window, but I won't stick my nose outside.

I get along really well with my foster siblings and with all the humans I have met so far. I had a lot of fun at the farmers market one day. I was so happy to meet everyone.

My foster mom took me one day to this place called the groomer. I was sweet and cooperative with the lady that gave me a bath and brushed me out. I even got pretty painted toenails. I have to admit I didn't like the bows they put in my hair though, and ditched them as soon as I was out the door.

Mabel has lived with us in her foster home for approximately two weeks now. She is settling in and has quickly learned to play with her pack mates. Before coming to our home, Mabel did not have much interaction with other dogs, so she was quite unsure how to meet them and to interact. She has come along quite well.

She plays puppy style—romping, wrestling, and tumbling with the other super young dog. She shares a stick with the big alpha dog and gently plays ball or soft toy with the oldest dog. She adjusts her level of play accordingly.

Mabel has had some obedience training and has completed puppy classes. She knows “down” and “sit” very well. But her response to a “come” command is not very good, so I would only recommend her being outside on a lead or in a fully fenced environment.

Mabel is fully potty trained and will bark at the door when she needs to go out. (Be aware, she will also bark when she wants to go out to play.) Mabel walks pretty well on a leash, but with some minor pulling when she wants to go greet another dog.

Mabel is a medium-sized Golden (perfect-sized, I think). She likes to snuggle with you on your chairs and in your bed if you allow it, so her size is ideal for that. She has a beautiful coat and her feathers are gorgeous.

Mabel has shown some resource guarding and air snaps, so her adoptive home should have no children or older children who can be taught how to safely interact with Mabel in these situations.

Mabel has been fully vetted, is spayed, and is up to date with vaccinations. She did very well at her vet appointment, standing nicely for our vet to fully check her out. She is also on heartworm preventative and flea treatments.

She has so far been left loose in the house when we are not home and overnight with the other dogs. She does great for the most part. She hasn't gotten into things she shouldn’t and sleeps through the night without needing to potty. She does not kennel well, but will respect a baby gate if needed.

The perfect family for Mabel would not leave her home alone for more than 6 hours. They would have a fellow dog for her to play with (although I believe she would be fine alone as well). They would be willing to include her fully in their life, make her a full member of the family, and include her in their activities. They would need to take Mabel for daily exercise walks or even runs.

Mabel is an exceptional dog. Do you have the qualities and room in your heart for this sweetheart?
