Profile

Welcome to RAGOM Maverick!  Maverick is a stunning 8 year old Golden Retriever.  He is a big guy weighing in around 100 lbs, with a big blocky head and giant paws!  His coat is darker red with just the beginning of the white "mask" starting to form on his face.  Maverick was surrendered because his owners had fallen on hard times and had no choice but to surrender this gem of a dog.  He is house trained, obedient, sweet, and loves EVERYONE. He has a true Golden Retriever personality.... "love me...love me, love me...."! He is hard to resist.

Maverick has been the perfect house guest since he arrived on Thursday (a big thanks to Kayla for getting him here to us!).  He met our 3 resident dogs very happily... he actually ran away from our yorkie at first! :) But he learned that the 10 lbs sassy little girl is nothing to be afraid of, and now they are buddies.  He immediately wanted to play with our Goldens, and they were happy to oblige.  He also loves and is very gentle with our 18 month old son.

Maverick is a very athletic boy... he moves around with an ease and grace that is beautiful to watch.  He absolutely loves (and needs) his daily walk, and he is pretty good on a leash.  He does respond to the heal command, but it takes constant reminding for him.  He would be excellent on a gentle leader I am sure, but we need to find one that fits his big ole' head. :)  He is in great shape for an 8 year old dog, and has a nice amount of energy.  In the house though he loves to lay around and chill.  He thinks he is a lap dog; and will try to curl in your lap if you invite him up on the couch. :)  He knows the basic commands: sit, down, shake, come. All and all, this is one FANTASTIC boy.

He still needs to visit the vet for his wellness exam, microchip, and the very important neuter!  We will be bringing him in on Monday for his wellness exam and later next week for the neuter.  He was stressed out, doing a lot of panting, and looking unsure his first day or so.  But now on day three he has become more comfortable.  We wanted to give him a few days to chill and become comfortable with us and our home before dragging him to the vet and the groomer.  But those things are in his very near future.  He came to us with VERY very long toenails. I already clipped them down some, but he is in need of a full grooming session.  He also has a broken canine tooth that I suspect will need to come out. But other than needing some TLC he looks to be in tip top health.  I will report more after his vet appointment.

More photos to come! Stay tuned. :)
