Profile

Well Misty came in yesterday late afternoon with 11 other dogs from SD; and all were very frightened and unsure what to expect. The hot and humid weather did not help at all, as all the dogs were hot!  Misty seemed not to know what doors of any kind were and getting into the van was a real ordeal.  She finally settled down about half way home just behind the front seats.  She received a bath with some cool water to cool her down, pulled some ticks, cut toenails and mattes out from behind her ears.  Towel dried her off and let the resident kids (Missy & Ali) meet her.  Of course there was a lot of sniffing going on and butt checking (dog thing).  We walked along the fence line and we finally ventured into the house by the way of the deck and patio door and that was another big adventure.  Misty checked out the kitchen and living room, drank a small amount of water; and would not eat anything for dinner.  No hand feeding or bowl feeding.  Misty has never been in a house before, so the sounds from the TV, phone, and kitchen noises are startling.  She will be tethered to a human body for the next 5 to 7 days or longer if needed.  She must learn not to be afraid of the inside workings of a home.  Last night she was tethered to the bed and slept next to it all night and before I turned the light off, Misty gave me some kisses on the hand and arm.  Misty at this point has been outside many times and she has yet pottied anything.  So this morning we go out on the long tether and still nothing.  As I have some chores to do outside (poo pickup & pulling weeds), I will let her walk around the yard with her short tether and will see what she does.  Well that was a successful adventure, Misty took care of all business. Tomorrow I will make an appointment with the vet for shots and getting her spayed, as Misty has had a few litters; and her time has come to be retired.  Misty's age is very young, she is just 3 yo, she is very sweet, is learning what love is.  She sits by me and always gives me one of her paws to hold. As you can tell from her picture she is also very camera shy, but I will get better ones yet.  The things Misty needs in her new home is a fenced yard and a resident dog.  If you think Misty may work in your home, please contact your placement coordinator. Love and licks, FM, Misty, Missy, & Ali
