Mr. Dumiss is an 8-week-old UTD, PB, reddish GR puppy who was born with a significant heart murmur. His vet says there is a possibility he will improve or grow out of it as he develops. He will see the vet again the third week of June to see if there has been any change. He will also be seeing specialists in the next few weeks who will give further insight into his condition. Mr. Dumiss is currently unavailable for adoption.
What the current fosters have noticed regarding the heart murmur is how hard his heart pounds after exertion. There are days he seems to run out of steam quickly throughout the day. At those times, he just lies down and watches his sister (the resident puppy) continue to play. After a little rest, he's back up playing as hard as ever. But then there are days when he never seems to run out of steam - he is a bit of a mystery!
He will be on the small side since both parents are smaller goldens weighing around 50 lbs. Also, both parents are used for hunting. He is being potty trained at present. He is quite opposed to the restrictions of baby gates, yard gates, crates, doors, etc. When restricted by them he barks and whines incessantly. He humps towels or blankets and us if we let him, but we are training him not to. He's such a cute boy that every kid (and most adults!) who see him want him! We started puppy socialization classes on Sunday, but he mostly slept through the playtime. We intend to take him every week while we have him. Also, lots of people - kids and adults - have come to see and play with him and his sister, so he should be very accustomed to interacting with people and other dogs by the time he's available to adopt.
