Profile

Hello.  I want to tell you all about Murphy.  But first, a note to his surrendering family.... I know it was difficult to surrender him and it shows how much he was loved in your home, by how wonderful of a dog he is.  I can assure you we will find him the perfect match.  He is in very good hands with us and RAGOM.

Murphy is a 4 year old boy who came to stay with us on Saturday. He is neutered and all up to date and very healthy.  He walked into our fenced in back yard and immediately got overjoyed when he saw our Lucy and wanted to play with her.  She can be a bit snarky with new dogs until the hierarchy is established and she likes to be the alpha.  Murphy read her signs right away and the pack leader was established.  From that moment on, these two have gotten along so well.  Of course, I can't see Murphy not getting along with any dog.  Murphy is the quintessential golden retriever in that he wants to be everyone's friend and I swear he does not have an ounce of aggression in his body.  He is that good.

Murphy was nervous and did not stop panting the entire first day here, but he has settled in very nicely and is able to relax at any point now.  He gets very excited to see new people and new dogs.  Like I said, he just wants to meet and be friends with everyone.  We share a fence line with a young black lab pup and Murphy loves him.  Our neighbor across the street brought his lab over and into the backyard and they played like crazy.  It is so fun to see Murphy have so much fun.  He gets the zoomies and runs around and stretches those long legs of his.

We have a two year old son and Murphy is perfect with him.  Garrett brushes him and is able to pet Murphy without any anxieties.  He is very calm around our son.  There was a bit of fear that Murphy with his size and excitement may knock over Garrett, but that has not happened once.  We don't really mind if it does (with Lucy), we just tell him to get back up....

Murphy is tall and weighed in at 78# yesterday at the vet.  The vet thought his ideal weight is about 74#, but he is not obese in anyway and is very fit.  His coat, gait and stature is absolutely gorgeous.  He loves to be brushed and loves the attention.  He rides well in the car, pulls when walked on a flat collar (we'll try a gentle leader next time), and has total free roam of the house.  He was crate trained as a puppy, but one has not been used since.  Murphy has alot of interest in our older cat, but it is not an aggression interest.  He just wants to meet her nose to nose and be friends.  But our cat keeps hissing at him and scaring him away.

Murphy is an absolute dream of a dog and I actually thought we may adopt him ourselves.  He fits in so well here.  But of course, if we adopt, that means no more fostering... So that means he is open to all of you.  Here is what I hope to find in a home for him:

- Another dog for him.  One that likes to play.  I've never seen a dog play bow so much in my life...
- Hopefully a fenced in yard so he can run freely and stretch his legs (he was trained to an invisible fence in his previous home)
- Cats should be ok.
- Children would be great.
- A family committed to walking him and socializing him often.  Murphy loves to meet people and other dogs.

There are some pics of this gorgeous fellow for you to enjoy.  If you think you're a match and want to meet him, please let your placement advisor know.  He won't last long (especially if we gobble him up)  :-)

Thank you for reading up on him and the other RAGOM pups.

We still pray every night for your safe return Mozart..... Please come home...
