8/15/05: Olivia is a 5-6 year old female who was found as a stray in Waterloo, IA. She is petite at about 50-60 lbs. I'll get that confirmed when she has her vet appointment on Thursday. She is very friendly, and knows a few commands. She definitely knows "no" and "sit". We'll be working on others. She does jump up, but she will immediately sit down when you say "no". We're working on getting her to sit to get attention, and she does that 50% of the time after only one night. She met my cats without incident, although she seems a little intimidated by my 22 lb. monster boy. She pulls on the leash, but I don't know if that's just from being locked up in the shelter. I'll be starting her with the Gentle Leader tonight.
She is very sweet and wants attention. When she was ready to lay down, she went into a bedroom and laid on the floor. She is currently going outside to potty on a cable, and does really well with that. She potties on command, and she stays right by me when we go outside. I think she will settle right into my routine, once she realizes she isn't going to be going back to the shelter. I plan to take her out to my friend's acreage and let her run around in their fenced yard, and see the interaction with other dogs this week.
The shelter isn't sure if she was spayed or not, so hopefully my vet can tell on Thursday. If you're looking for a dog that can fit right into your life, without a lot of training, Olivia could be the girl for you.
