We would like to welcome Quincy 11-261 to our house, he arrived on Saturday all the way from SD. I would like to thank transporters John & Karen for bringing him to me. He rode very well with 2 other 5 yr golden brothers. A special thank you to Rona who got him bathed and vetted for me.

This is what I have learned about him since Saturday. He is a great looking 2-4 yr golden with a touch of Collie. I think he's 2 years old, they are not real sure as he was a stray. The vet thinks 2-4 so let's say 3 years old and go in the middle. I say a touch of collie because he has a narrower face & a white spot on his nose & head & white on his chest. But he looks all golden & acts all golden right down to the nose nudge & the paw. He's just as friendly as can be. He is a little "Velco" right now but then he was in a shelter for 3 weeks so he's lonely. I am sure once he gets used to us and feels more comfortable he will settle down more. He has met the 5 yr old resident female Golden Timber girl, AKA Wild Woman, with No Issues. He has tried to mount her a few dozen times and she let him know NO WAY! I think he realizes she is the top dog now. He continues to try & get her to play with him. She has played tug of war with him many times. She chases the ball and he gets it and teases her with it.

He retrieves the ball & also brings in back to me. Timber retrieves but rarely gives it back to me.

Now the Vet Stuff:

He came in Neutered. He is heartworm & Lymes negative. Fecal negative. So he's completely vetted & UTD. He's a tall Golden but only 61 lbs. Red in color with all the golden feathering, white on the chest & tip of nose & tip of his head.

He gets along with big & small dogs. Likes everyone & wants to play with all dogs. Our neighbor has a 20 lb white dog and Quincy races the fence line to play with her. There's not a mean bone in his body.

No resource guarding issues. Noises don't seem to bother him. Airplanes no problem. We haven't had any storms since I got him so I can't say for sure how he is with storms yet. Toys - he's still learning about them. Not destructive at all.

He is a slow eater so he wasn't finished eating this morning and I turned around and Timber was right there trying to help him finish up. I thought for sure someone was going to growl but No, so I just picked the bowl up and gave it back to him. My resident dog likes her food so I worry about her sometimes with fosters because she thinks everything is hers but no issues with food.

We went for a 2 mile walk on Sunday and he did just fine on a flat collar. He pulled a bit but then got better as we walked. He is a very fast walker so maybe jogging would be good for him. I will try him with a GL next time. I take 2 dogs for a walk before work each day & they walk just fine together.

We are working on crate training because he was in one for 3 weeks and I can say he doesn't really like going in there. We are doing the treats and he's not really food motivated so it's a little tricky but he goes in with some coaxing. So maybe he's telling me No Crate. Although last night he went in the crate for the night with Timber in hers. He barked a few times but then settled down for the night. We will keep working on Quincy with the crate stuff. I am trying the laundry room for Quincy - it's bigger & more room to move around in.

I will try baby gating next. So you are wondering if he doesn't like the crate, why am I putting him in a crate. Quincy & Timber would play all day long and you know those Golden tails would knock everything over.

Quincy is housetrained, no accidents at all. Likes his peoples just like Timber so one on each side petting the pups and they seem to be just fine. Takes treats very nicely. Doesn't counter surf. Doesn't jump up on you. Energy but not over the top as of yet. We are still getting to know him so his real personality has not totally come out yet.

It's coming out now after 5 days. He is getting more comfortable with us & resident dog. More relaxed, not panting anymore except when he is running around after playing.

I took him to work with me for the day and everyone just loved him. I work in a Senior community and he was great for the residents to meet him & of course pet him.

***This is what I would like to see for Quincy in his forever home as of now but could change as we get to know him better:

  • A physical fence since he was a stray
  • Another dog to play with or friends that have dogs for him to play with.
  • Car rides- just lays down & rides great!
  • Lots of walks or runs.
  • Obedience classes. He is smart just needs some training. Knows sit, stay sometimes but wants to please.
  • The more hands to pet me the better Quincy says.

Don't know about cats since I don't have one but he could be tested if his forever home had one.

Don't know about swimming yet. The resident dog lays in the little blue pool, but so far Quincy only drinks from it. I will try and take him swimming and see how he does.

Quincy doesn't even try and jump up on the beds or furniture. Good boy Quincy.

This is one great golden & I am sure he won't be in foster care long!

More to come as we get to know the Quincy Man.

Here's a pic of Quincy & Timber & Trigger.

Quincy is a very gentle loving dog that just wants attention & to be loved. If you think you could be that family contact your placement advisor and we can talk.

I'm hoping to bring him to the Fridley Event this weekend from 11-1. Come out and meet this great dog!
