6/13/05: Santo is a 5 year old neutered, up to date male who's survived life as a puppy mill stud and is just beginning to trust that his world has changed for the better. The Golden life is not yet within the reach of his imagination, but it will come.

Santo ate his first real meal this evening after holding out for 3 days. Doctored canned food on top of the kibble and 'all gone'! There's a bit of Kielbasa with his name on it, and since he likes to sleep in the kennel (with the top removed), I will leave the last piece there for him when we go to bed in case he wants a midnight snack. You can tell he likes the smell of it!

He saw TV today probably for the first time. He stopped dead in his tracks at the other end of the living room and just stared. My guest and I both realized what he was doing. His legs were wide spread and he looks very regal when he stands in that pose! More to report next week as he begins to know his new world!

His victories will come in baby steps; that he finally ate, that he came through the door from outside alone, that he made eye contact with you; it is like watching a flower open.
