Sunny will not be available for adoption until he recovers from his neuter which is scheduled for this coming Friday.
Please welcome friendly, loveable, Sunny to the RAGOM website! Sunny has had a busy few weeks-this is his second foster home through no fault of his own. He has had quite a few changes; to say the least he is doing wonderfully! Sunny is a 63 pound, 4 year old male from South Dakota that lived outside most of his life. You see...he is a trained pheasant hunter! (Sunny came into RAGOM with his litter-mate Scar, 10-286. The past owner felt that the dogs were not given the attention that they needed and deserved.) Sunny loves to retrieve his ball! We couldn't figure out how to get him to drop when playing fetch with him. We tried all sorts of commands- drop, give....nothing worked. THEN last night a hunter friend was over visiting. He tried the command "release" AND there you have it----Sunny promptly dropped the ball! I wonder what he had been thinking all this time.... "Say the word already and let's get on with this game of fetch! What is wrong with these people!" I can only wonder what other commands he knows and is waiting for us to try!
Sunny had a bath today; no problems in that area. He was very patient; no arguments from him in the least! Sunny does have a slight cough and a minor ear infection that we are taking care of. Other that that the vet gave him a clean bill of health. As soon as Sunny's cough is gone he will be going in for his neuter. The vet thought that the neuter could be done later this week. After he has recovered, Sunny will be ready to go to his lucky forever home!
Sunny is a very well mannered dog that wants to please. He is a fabulous walker...he sticks right by my side and stops and sits right away when I stop. He is adjusting to life in the house. In fact he is sleeping under my feet as I type this now. Last night he finally slept in his cushy new bed; in fact, I think he was smiling as he dozed off! Sunny watches the cat come and go; he pays him no real attention; yet I think he is curious. I am wondering if given a little time they could become buddies?
When he is outside of my fenced yard, he likes to go off and sniff on his own, but he has always come back right away when called. I am thinking if you keep a close eye on him when he is out and give him some direction, I think he would do fine without a fence.
At this time, I do not know how he is around children or other dogs. I will keep you posted on these items.
We have been pretty much together for the past 5 days. He loves to ride in the car; anytime I grab my keys or head toward the car he gets excited! Tomorrow will be the first long day that he will be alone, gated off in the kitchen area---I will miss him!
