Please help us welcome this beautiful girl back to RAGOM! Sydney was originally surrendered to RAGOM in September 2011, after her owners realized they could no longer spend time with her as she deserved. At that time it was noted she was nervous around young children. A few weeks later, she was adopted out to a family that loved her very much. They informed their neighbors she was uncomfortable around young children; however, one day their young neighbor was outside unattended. Sydney went to greet him by the fence. The young boy stuck his hand thru the fence -- unattended remember -- and Sydney, who is already uncomfortable around young children, attempted to take the food the child had in his hand. Unfortunately Sydney attempted to take the food harder than she should have and the young boy required sutures to his hand. She was returned to RAGOM and has spent the last 2 months in boarding, waiting for an adult only foster home to open up. We welcomed her into our home this past Friday and we are totally head over heels in love with this girl!!
Sydney is a beautiful purebred Golden Retriever who will turn 5 years old on June 27th. I'm sure she would LOVE a spring icon to help her celebrate! :) Sydney has been an absolute joy to have around. She enjoys the company of our Goldens - 2 males ages 4 and 6, and foster Betty, who's almost 2. She loves being around her humans and has bonded with Foster Dad very quickly. When he's home she follows him everywhere he goes and never lets him out of her sight. She is very affectionate and loves, loves, LOVES to give kisses! She loves to be brushed and LOVES car rides! She is a true Golden Retriever as she loves a good game of fetch. She brings it back to you right away and drops it at your feet, anxiously awaiting another throw. She also likes to lounge in the kiddie pool when it's warm outside. Sydney loves going for walks and walks great on a Gentle Leader. Although she would probably love to sleep on our bed at night, she sleeps contently on a dog bed and sleeps soundly throughout the night. She can blame her foster brothers for hogging all the room on the human bed! She's completely potty trained and has free roam when we're gone. We haven't had an opportunity to test her with cats, but her previous foster home reports that she ignored them.
Sydney, like a lot of purebred Goldens, suffers from allergies. It's very important that she continue on her grain free food to help with this. She also suffers from seasonal allergies and is on benedryl during the spring and summer months. We are working on taking treats gently as she can be a little grabby, and she is already catching on very quickly. She knows all the basic commands - sit, down, stay, come - and really wants to please her humans. She lets us know when someones at the door by getting very excited and barking. We are also working on this behavior - hopefully we can also get her foster brothers on board and they can learn a thing or two, too! Overall she is a very calm dog who loves being by her humans. When we go to the fence line to talk to the neighbors, she lays down nicely next to us without a peep.
Sydney knows her past can be a bit scary to some people, but trust us when we say she is an absolute dream to foster! We know there is a special family out there who will see Sydney for the beautiful, amazing girl that she is. She will need an adult only forever home with limited contact with children. As with all dogs and children, she should have constant adult supervision if she is around them. Should Sydney be adopted to a home in the suburbs, we are recommending a physical fence due to her history. If you live out in the country with a lot of land for her to run and play, where you are not close to your neighbors, then a fence would not be necessary. Sydney would be fine in a home with or without another dog, and is looking for someone who wants to be her best friend. As mentioned, she loves her humans!
Sydney will be out greeting her fans this weekend at Pride. We plan to be there from 10-12 on Sunday the 24th - please come out and see this beautiful girl, and wish her Happy Birthday! She is catching up on her beauty sleep so she can be ready for her big debut!
