4/14/06: Thomas is here from Duluth; thanks for the ride, Emily! :) He is a 9 month-old neutered male Golden Retriever (born on the 4th of July!), light golden color, complete with official Pedigree. I would say he's about 70 pounds, but a bit overweight possibly due to his injuries; Thomas has ruptured cruciate ligaments in both legs. The injury apparently happened when he was running and playing with another dog, but was thought to always be weak in the hind legs. He was x-rayed for hip dysplasia and that is not the problem. He is getting aspirin daily now for the torn ACL's and is limping, especially on his rear right leg. Owner's vets recommended surgery on both knees, but they could not afford it so has relinquished Thomas to RAGOM. He lived with 3 & 7 year old kids - great with them; they pull his hair, lay on him, handle him. He also lived with a cat and bird, plays nice with other dogs, just a great boy. He was an indoor dog, housetrained, and doesn't need a crate anymore and had free run of previous home. Reportedly spends lots of time sleeping on the couch, which I have yet to see since he's still checking out his surroundings! :) Thomas has an appointment at the U of M Vet Hospital on the 24th for a consultation, so we'll know more about Thomas' recovery at that time. Until then, we'll keep him as comfortable and calm as possible; he's a trooper, though - no whimpering or whining from this big lover boy!
