Profile

Hello everyone!  My name is Timber 11-036 and I'm brand new to the RAGOM family. I was given to RAGOM by a wonderful owner who couldn't take care of me because of  her severe allergy issues.   I'm a healthy and happy 6 year old female Golden mix who loves marrow bones, long walks after work, and snuggles on the couch.   I pride myself on being the most polite girl you'll ever meet; in fact, I won't enter a room unless you invite me!  Until you give me the okay, I'll just wait patiently at the doorway and watch your every move.  Once you ask me in, though, I hope you'll give me lots of scratches and cuddles, because I love to be close to you.  My owner made sure that I know my manners, and I walk nicely on a leash--although bouncing in the snow is awfully fun!  As a matter of fact, I did so much of that at my new foster home that I'm getting kind of sleepy.  I think I'll turn this over to my foster mom now and she can fill you in on the rest of my story.  I hope she does a good job, because I'd love to find a forever home soon and I just know there's one waiting for me!

Okay, this is Timber's foster mom taking over; boy, she's a talkative girl!  You'd never know that to see her, because Timber is the most polite and well-mannered dog I've ever had the pleasure of knowing!  She walks well on a leash, listens like a champ, and takes treats nicely.  Timber is a Golden mix, but she's got the heart and spirit of a pure Golden. She was with one family her entire life, so although she's a little anxious in a new home, she's very comfortable around people.  According to her owner, Timber gets along well with other dogs (as long as proper introductions are made) and loves all people because she knows they're the ones with the treats!  She's house trained and respects boundaries, but most of all she just want to be next to you.  She loves playing outside and moves like a girl half her age, jumping and bounding through the snow.

Now that Timber's been with us for a few days, I'm better able to assess her needs and personality.  Bottom line, Timber is an ANGEL!  She is content to chew on her bones all day, just as long as you are nearby.  She is a cuddler and will actually spoon with you in bed (yes, I let her sleep with me, what can I say?).  I call Timber an "emotional thermometer" because she is very attuned to the emotions and energy of people around her and does not like conflict; I raised my voice to call to my husband in another part of our home and Timber hustled into the room and sat by me until I told her everything was okay.

Timber has no bathroom issues at all and understands the "Go potty" command just fine.  She will come and nudge you gently with her nose when she needs to be let out, too.  We've not crated Timber because she has some crate anxiety according to her previous owner.  She has no problem with free roam and is careful to stay off the furniture. This is one respectful girl!

She had a great visit to the vet and was pronounced healthy as a horse--although truth be told, she could stand to lose anywhere from 10-15 lbs.  The vet feels that consistent exercise will take care of the weight; it hasn't affected her in any way and she still jumps/goes up and down stairs with no problem.  Timber is very food motivated, but does not like to eat unless you in the room.  We've also had to place her dish on a carpet square because, for whatever reason, she likes to stand on carpet when she eats.  If that's Timber's only quirk, then we'll take it!

While we were at the vet Timber met another dog.  They sniffed politely, but when the other dog got a little too excited, Timber warned him off with a growl.  I'm thinking that Timber, although she was raised with other dogs (according to her owner), might be better off as an only dog or with just one other resident.

If you are considering Timber (and you should, she's PERFECT!) here are some general recommendations for her forever home:

  • A home where she is not left alone for really long periods...she is used to being left alone for about 7 hours.
  • Older children.  She appreciates a quieter home and seems to get a little anxious around raised/loud voices.  She also gets excited when you come in and can jump, although she respects the "down" or "off" command.
  • No fence required--you read that right!  Because of her attachment, Timber is not a wanderer.  We have let her off leash in our open yard and she stays within sight and comes when called.
  • One/no resident dog.  Timber might like a buddy, but it should be a dog close to her energy level (low) and not very excitable.  You may find that her anxiety/attachment is eased with a confident resident dog.

As you can see, Timber is so easy going that there aren't many restrictions for her new home.  She's an absolute dream of a dog and is about as low-maintenance as they come.  I know that she would be a wonderful addition to the right home; at 6 years old she's mellow but still has plenty of energy and life left in her.  Contact your placement advisor today about Timber 11-036, because dogs like her don't come around every day and she's sure to find her forever home soon!
