Dexter

Profile

Dexter is a sweet Goldendoodle with a playful spirit who loves squeaky balls, car rides, walks, and romping with his canine friends. He’s made great progress managing his separation anxiety and will thrive in a home with a confident resident dog and people who are home most of the time. Dexter would do best with children 5 and older and would prefer a home without shared walls. Cats must be dog savvy. A physical fence is optional. At the end of the day, he’s happiest snuggled up beside his people, whether on the bed or in his cozy dog bed nearby.

Dog Updates

  1. Dexter came back into Ragom after a change in family status resulted in him being home alone for longer periods of time than he could handle. After a transition period in his foster home, he has dealt well with being left with his foster sisters for up to six hours at a time. When we return home he greets us at the door with his foster sisters happy that we are home.      In the morning when he wakes up he will come over and gently nudge my hand to let me... In the morning when he wakes up he will come over and gently nudge my hand to let me know it is time to get up. He joins his foster sisters to let us know when its time to eat, go outside or go for a walk. Dexter loves to go for car rides, walks and cuddle on the couch. He is a lover who wants to be with his family members (human and furry). Though he does wish the foster cat would play with him.

Dexter has been the perfect house guest and is waiting for his furever home. Could you be the furever home that he is looking for?

  2. Dexter has had the opportunity to go to a number of RAGOM events since his initial update. Dexter did well with meeting new people and children. He needs slow introductions to new dogs to avoid being overstimulated. He continues to do well when left alone with our resident dogs, often sleeping on the dog bed near the front door. Dexter is not a fan of thunderstorms or lightning. He has a tendency to pant or pace during them. He just needs to be comforted and encouraged to lay next to you until he is less nervous. He is scheduled for a dental appointment on September 11th to check the status of a couple of his teeth and will be available to go to his forever home after a short recovery time.

Dexter continues to walk well on a leash. We have taken him for a daily walk and his foster sisters have started to join him. All three of them love this daily walk and have started to demand this morning ritual if they think they have waited too long. His one foster sister loves to walk next to him.

Dexter is a handsome goldendoodle, but looks more golden than doodle. When Dexter first arrived at our home he was comfortable interacting with our resident dogs almost immediately. Dexter has dealt with separation anxiety and is currently on Trazadone and fluoxetine. Because of this he should be in a home with a confident resident dog and humans that are home more often than not. He has dealt well with being left with our resident dogs for a few hours at a time with no signs of separation anxiety.

Dexter has interacted with one of our resident cats and deals well at times, but probably would be best in a home without a cat as he does not know how to play with cats and tends to be too rough.

We have had two of our grandchildren (age 8 and 10) at our house overnight and loves any attention he can get from them. He has initially tried to be dominant, so he would do best with children that are 8 or older.

Dexter loves to play with his squeaky balls and do zoomies with our resident dogs. If in the house he will bring the ball over and push it towards you with his nose and wait for you to throw it. No hard toys for Dexter as he has chipped and capped teeth from his earlier adventure with kennels as a puppy.

At night time he sleeps on the bed or a dog bed that is on the floor next to the bed. Dexter is a healthy boy other than the separation anxiety that is improving.  He also will be having a dental appointment on September 11th to check the status of a couple of his teeth.

Dexter walks well on a leash.  He only pulls slightly, but only when he is heading back to his home.  He also loves to go for car rides and happily jumps in the car.
