Windsor
Profile
Windsor was surrendered to RAGOM when his owner had to move and could not take him along. Windsor is a healthy, happy, five-year old golden. He can live in a variety of situations: children of any age, with another dog or as an only dog, with or without cats, and he does not require a physical fence. Windsor has some energy to burn and enjoys walks and games in the yard. While he is well-behaved in the house, he can get excited and need some help calming down. A family who is prepared to provide some training will be important. Windsor will be a great addition to just about any home.

Windsor has been a joy to foster. He has plenty of energy, loves his constant pets, twice daily walks, and the treats that come with being a good boy. Windsor has never been destructive even when we leave him with free reign of the house for several hours at a time. He will grab a sock, glove, hat or anything else laying around when someone comes home and hold it in his mouth to calm down, but he never chews anything other than his toys. During the day he will sleep in his open crate in my office or in the hallway but we had him in our bedroom on his dog bed at night and he is a very good sleeper. He patiently waits for me to get out of bed and get dressed before we have breakfast and go for our morning walk.
He has become a very good walker (we use a harness), he rarely pulls although at times he will jump and bark when we come across another dog. He likes going on car rides and is good in the car but will at times bark when he sees a dog on the street or in another car. He loves his pup cups.
Windsor has learned several new commands or tricks during this stay with us (shake, lay down, stay, get your stuffie) and has proven to me pretty smart. We hosted several gatherings while he was with us, he is very excited to greet people at the door but has learned to really settle down and likes to be near people. He definitely could use some formal training to learn some more basic obedience. He will listen and show the ability to be a very good dog, but he is very excitable so you just need to help him calm down.
We will miss him greatly and hope to dog sit him whenever needed.

Windsor is an energetic and sweet 5-year old golden retriever. He has a big heart and a love for everyone he meets. Windsor is house-trained, respectful of boundaries, and has never been destructive. He has not been crate trained, as he enjoyed free reign in his owners' house. Windsor is house-trained, respectful of boundaries, and has never been destructive. He has not been crate trained, as he enjoyed free reign in his owners' house. When we have had to go out, we've left him in our office for 1-2 hours at a time, with the door open but with a pet gate up. He sometimes whimpers or barks a little bit but always settles down within a few minutes. We have had him in our bedroom at night. He sleeps on a dog bed next to our bed and is a GREAT sleeper. He waits for me to get out of bed before he gets up and then is ready to leave the bedroom.
He loves his twice daily walks and chasing a tennis ball in the backyard. He is curious about things, especially our cat, who wants nothing to do with him. He loves his stuffed toys, and will grab them when he meets people to share (and I think it calms him down a little). His favorite pastime is visiting the dog park, where he shines as the social butterfly, always making new friends.
Windsor could use some training, whether formal obedience classes or an experienced owner that has trained dogs before. He will listen and show the ability to be a very good dog, but he is very excitable so you just need to help him calm down. He does have a tendency to jump on people when he is excited, so some caution is advised if he is around young kids or elderly people. He sometimes gets excited when he sees other dogs while we are on walks, pulling the leash towards the other dog but he typically won't bark unless the other dog starts barking first.
Windsor is a healthy and happy young golden that just wants love and attention. I think he would be very happy being the only dog (pet) in the house but I also think he would get along with another dog.
