Cash
Profile
Cash came into RAGOM from a commercial breeding environment. Everything about living in a home is new to him, but he is gradually adjusting to the wonders of being a house dog. He is easily startled by new and loud noises, so children should be mature enough to understand his needs. He has not been tested with cats and will require another dog in the home to model and learn from and he does not need physical fence but his family should have a solid safety plan. Cash will blossom into a loving, confident companion dog in a home that provides him with affection, guidance, training, and patience.

Cash had his big surgery on March 10th: He was neutered and had almost all of his teeth removed due to severe dental disease! We think he feels much better now that those painful teeth are gone (and and his breath no longer smells terrible!!) In addition to losing his teeth, he has lost 28 pounds and is at his ideal weight. He looks fabulous and can now walk up and down a flight of 6 stairs with ease. Cash is such a sweet, gentle soul that his foster family could not imagine him leaving. So as o... Cash is such a sweet, gentle soul that his foster family could not imagine him leaving. So as of March 21, he is a permanent resident at his foster home. We couldn’t be more thrilled and we think Cash is pretty happy about this too. We are looking forward to many more happy years with this boy! We love him so much.

Cash had several health issues that have now been treated and have resolved. In February, he had a non-malignant mass removed from his vocal fold. A CT scan of his upper body showed no other masses and we were relieved to learn that he did not have cancer! Cash has been treated for multiple intestinal parasites and ear and skin infections. He is scheduled to have oral surgery on March 10th and will likely have several teeth removed. He will also be neutered at that time. Cash has some stiffness in his hind legs and is unable to independently get in a car. He can go up and down short flights of stairs that are carpeted but is unable to manage long flights or hardwood risers inside. Now that he has lost about 15 pounds, Cash is moving more comfortably and has even been observed running a little outside!
Cash is fully house trained after a large, shrub-like house plant was removed from the foster’s main living area! He will stand at the door and bark when he wants to go outside. He now walks well on a leash and always looks around to see that his preferred people are close by. He can easily walk at least two miles at a time and never pulls on the leash. Cash is a bit fearful of walking in the dark and will startle when he hears an unfamiliar sound or steps on an unfamiliar surface. His startle response is short-lived and he has never shown a desire to run away and is therefore not a flight risk.
Cash is friendly toward all people and all dogs that he has met. He has not had experiences with cats but is not interested in squirrels or bunnies so he would likely be fine living with an indoor cat. He sleeps through the night in his crate. During the day, he can be left in a bedroom or gated-off part of the house for two or three hours at a time and likes to sleep on a dog bed. He barks when left alone but is generally content to be left with the resident dog if he can’t be with his people.
Cash has learned the commands “sit” and “down” and knows that he will get attention when he sits. He will “stay” for brief periods when he knows there is a treat involved. We are working on increasing the duration and distance from people while in a “stay”. Cash is a dog who thrives on human attention and can never get enough pets or be too close to his favorite people. He will manage to push himself into a very tight space just to be near someone. If you stop petting Cash, he will quickly paw at you to communicate his wish for more pets!
Cash is an easy-going, affectionate dog who would thrive in a variety of home environments. He is accustomed to living with multiple dogs and is comforted by being with another confident dog so a resident-dog is a requirement. Cash would enjoy living with a family that spends a good amount of time at home since he loves attention. Cash gets along well with children of all ages. A home where most living space is on the main floor would be ideal since he cannot navigate steps easily. Cash does not require a fenced-in yard and is not a flight risk but a plan to keep him safe outside will be important.
