Our little Miss Maggie joined our clan recently and boy, what a bundle of fun! She has very quickly earned her nickname of Miss Maggie Mayhem and gets into all sorts of puppy mischief.
Maggie was a stray that came into the RAGOM family from a reservation. She is supposedly a Golden mix, but she appears to be much more of a Shepherd mix with golden paws and a golden heart. She came in with whipworms (which she was treated for) and giardia (also treated). She has been brought up-to-date on her vaccines (needs a booster in 3 weeks, though) and microchipped, and currently weighs in at 25 pounds at what the vet is guessing 5 to 6 months of age. She will also be spayed in the near future.
Magpie met our 3 Goldens without an issue, loves to chase the 3 cats in the house, and tries to convince them that all she wants to do is play with them. She gets along great with my kids and absolutely loves loves loves playing ball with them. For being a puppy, she is still figuring out this whole potty outside thing and getting it right about 85% of the time. She does like to counter-surf, so that is another thing we are working on. She is starting to learn her name, but isn't very consistent with it yet. She is a great snuggle bug and certainly enjoys belly rubs!
Maggie May is a puppy yet and with adopting a puppy, she will have some special requirements. She needs someone that is willing to spend the time and energy training her, helping her to grow into a well-mannered dog. I always say that there's a reason that puppies are so cute....it's because otherwise, nobody would put up with their behavior! With lots of love and consistency, Maggie will grow into a wonderful girl....without it, though, she will create lots of havoc before she grows up and possibly afterwards too.
If you are interested in considering Maggie to join your family, please contact your placement advisor....just remember, Maggie is giving puppy kisses for a limited time only!

Miss Magpie was adopted by a wonderful couple. She hopped right in their car and didn't look back. Hopefully, she won't get into too much mayhem with her new family. We miss you, Maggie....it's way too quiet in our house without you!! Read more → Read less ↑

Since Maggie has been back with us, she decided to get into all sorts of mischief. Unfortunately, I ended up running to the emergency vet on Friday after Maggie somehow managed to find a package of hand warmers (I think our former foster, Reggie, the Goldendoodle with a propensity for hand warmers hid them for her!) and found out that while they may taste good (really?!), they definitely are NOT good for you. Maggie ended up staying overnight while they induced vomiting, gave her enemas, and monitored her iron levels. While we are very glad she is back home, my glasses aren't! I have discovered that Maggie is now tall enough to counter-surf and has developed a propensity for my glasses....first my prescription pair and then this morning my cheap pair that I've been using while waiting to get a new pair of prescription ones....guess I'm going to have to keep a better eye on the mischief maker!!
Maggie continues to get along great with our 3 Goldens and our 3 cats. She loves, loves, loves to play fetch in the yard and does an awesome job of retrieving and often beats our ball-obsessed Golden at finding the ball first. And while she loves to play ball, she also loves, loves, loves to snuggle and give kisses!! Maggie is such a snuggle bug and will sneak a kiss whenever she gets the chance....it's a good thing that I love puppy kisses!
Miss Maggie is completely potty trained now, but when she gets excited or meets someone new, she still does some submissive peeing. It has improved, but it still a work in progress. In the dog world, it shows that she's being submissive to you, and if you yell at her, she will pee more in order to show you that she's trying to submit and thus can be a vicious circle. Thus, she needs a family that understands that yelling only makes it worse and giving her time and security will make it better. I don't doubt that she will soon outgrow this as she feels safe and secure in her environment, plus as she ages and has better control of her bladder.
Maggie is really a smart and sweet girl. She gets into mischief as all puppies do, but is so fun to have around. If you are interested in this little (43 pounds now) sweetie, contact your placement coordinator. Maggie will definitely win your heart if you give her a chance.

Hi, fans! It's Maggie! Guess what?!?! I'm on vacation! I'm staying with some people for a couple of weeks and they have a one-year-old dog that loves to play with me! Life is good here! The first day here, temp Foster Mom and temp Foster Dad took me and the resident dog for a walk. I pulled so hard that I broke a leather leash! That evening when we went for a walk, they put a Gentle Leader halter on my nose. I don't like it very much because it hurts to pull, but I guess I have to put up with it. I don't pull much anymore, so foster mom and dad are happy.
Want to know my favorite things?
- I love being near my people so I can give them lots of kisses.
- I love running. It's especially fun when another dog is chasing me.
- I love to play fetch. I'll bring the ball back so you can throw it again.
- I love chewing on bones and playing with tugs and other toys. (I'm still learning what are appropriate toys.)
I would love to find a family that will exercise me and train me to be a good dog. Foster Mom says that dogs, just like kids, don't come fully trained. Think of me as a piece of clay that you get to help mold into a great dog. I am just about potty trained, I take treats really gently and I know "sit." I'm working on mastering "down." My temp foster parents ignore me whenever I jump on them, so I'm starting to realize that I can't get any attention that way. I'm a smart dog and will catch on really quick with consistency.
Want to meet me? I'm sure you'll love me! I'm a happy girl!

Maggie continues to be a joy to foster. She is getting bigger every day, although still very much a puppy. She loves to play with our dogs and listens very well when they tell her that enough is enough. She also is learning on the potty training by ringing a bell on the door when she wants to go out. She still has a ways to go, but I'd say she's about 90% of the way there and only having the occasional accident. She still has a ways to go, but I'd say she's about 90% of the way there and only having the occasional accident. She does, however, continue to do some occasional submissive peeing, but that too has become less and less frequent as she feels more comfortable and secure in our home and her place in our pack.
Miss Maggie will be going back to the vet this week to get a booster and a recheck on her fecal. Otherwise, she just needs to be spayed, and then she is good to go to her forever home. I'll update later in the week after her visit and hopefully, she'll cooperate with the camera so you can see just how cute she is.
