Peanut

Profile

Peanut was surrendered to RAGOM because his owner was unable to give him the time and attention he needs. Peanut is adjusting to his new life as an indoor dog and doing well. Any children in the home should be age 13+ since Peanut can be pretty rambunctious at times and doesn't fully recognize his own size. Peanut can live comfortably with other dogs but does not require another doggy companion. He has not been tested with cats. A physical fence is not required for Peanut as long as a solid safety plan is in place. With a family that is committed to providing Peanut attention and teaching him house manners, Peanut will become a great family companion.

Peanut is a very handsome dark red 85lb golden retriever that has been welcomed into RAGOM and loves attention. Peanut was living outside previously and has been adjusting to living in the house since being here. Peanut is housetrained, heartworm and parasite negative, microchipped, neutered and current on all vaccinations. Peanut does know his Name, Go Inside, Sit and we are working on Wait, Drop It and Leave It and Heeling. He also takes his meds and treats from my hand.

I have 2 goldens in my home and Peanut has gotten along with them very well and has started to interact with them by wrestling and chasing them in the yard. He has shown no indication of resourcing guarding his food, treats, toys or me. Peanut has had no interest in being on furniture, counter surfing or sleeping in bed with me and my goldens. He has been content sleeping on the floor in the bedroom on his bed.

Peanut is crate trained and does very well in there. He has earned my trust and pretty much has the run of the house with my 2 goldens now. He has not chewed anything inappropriate and has given up any items he should not have.

Peanut will get in to the truck on his own. Once in the truck he is a little excitable, but calms down once the vehicle starts moving and he rides very well and will hop out on his own with no problem.

I have not noticed any separation anxiety. When I leave the house, I give him a toy to distract him and when I return, he is laying quietly on his pillow waiting for me. When Peanut does get excited for instance in the backyard, he will run around for a minute or so then come to me on his own to check in, get petted and acknowledgement, then take off again and repeat the cycle. Peanut responds very well to praise and affection.

Peanut is a very sociable fella that is a little rough around the edges, but he is very good at giving me his attention and definitely wants to please me. He has gotten along very well with my 2 goldens, but he doesn’t necessarily need another dog in the home with him. Peanut is an 85lb dog that throws himself around like he is a 15lb puppy and will absolutely require patience and training so his full potential as a true companion can be realized. Peanut is an awesome fella that will make a great addition to his new family.
