RAGOM

Aspen

Profile

Aspen is a sweet, five year old female that came into RAGOM from a breeder release.  She is a shy girl and needs to have another resident dog to learn from and build her confidence.  She will also need a physical fence in her new home to keep her safe.  Because she startles easily, kids should be 15 or older.   She has not been cat tested.  Aspen's new home should be one with patience and love as she gets accustomed to the Golden life!

Meet Aspen! A sweet and gentle 5-year-old breeder surrender who is learning what it means to be a loved family dog.

Aspen spent the first part of her life living outside in a barn and having litters, so everything about home life is still new to her. Since coming into her foster’s home just over two months ago, she has made incredible progress. She started out only staying in her crate, then slowly explored a “safe room,” and now she confidently comes out to relax in the living room and lounge on the couch.

She’s a low-to-moderate energy girl who loves a calm routine. She enjoys her twice-daily walks and gets happy and wiggly when it’s time to go out. She’s still learning leash skills but is doing well considering it’s very new to her! She gets excited by bunnies and squirrels, but is easily redirected.

She is fully house trained and has never had an accident in her foster home. While she uses her crate as a safe space (and sleeps in it with the door open), she does not need to be crated when left alone—she does great and typically just naps while you’re gone.

She is incredibly sweet and loves affection once she feels safe, but she is shy and can be fearful with new people and loud noises. In busy situations, she may retreat to her crate until she has time to warm up. Because of this, she is looking for a quieter home with patient adopters who will let her build trust at her own pace.

She would do best in a home with:

    • A fenced yard (this is required)

    • A calm, low-traffic household

    • Another confident dog (this is required—she relies heavily on other dogs for comfort and confidence)

    • Older, respectful children or an adult-only home

She has the cutest habit of “collecting” treasures in her crate—anything from toys to the occasional boot if she gets the chance! She’ll proudly gather her favorites into her space and always looks so proud of her work. It’s one of her most adorable, quirky traits.

Aspen has a mild, inherited heart murmur that has not affected her quality of life at all—she’s active, happy, and not on any medications. Most dogs with this condition live completely normal lives, with just simple monitoring and a recheck in about a year with her cardiologist.

She is scheduled to be spayed on May 8th and will be ready for adoption after she has fully recovered (about two weeks after surgery).

She is truly a gentle soul who has come so far already. With a little patience and a lot of love, she will continue to blossom into an incredibly loyal and loving addition to a family.
