RAGOM

Finn

Profile

Finn is a five year old male golden retriever who was lovingly surrendered to RAGOM so he could find a quieter home.  He is good with other dogs but has not been tested with cats.  Because Finn needs a calm, quiet home, kids in his home should be 15 or over.

Dog Updates

  1. Finn has had a crazy couple of weeks! This last week he had a couple seizures but none of them landed him at the emergency vet overnight so that’s good. The new medication is making him a lot more sleepy and chill but that’ll only last about a month.   Besides that stuff he has been very good. Every time someone new meets him they always comment on how sweet he is and that’s 110% true. He’s the perfect golden retriever besides his seizures and the fact that he eats... Besides that stuff he has been very good. Every time someone new meets him they always comment on how sweet he is and that’s 110% true. He’s the perfect golden retriever besides his seizures and the fact that he eats his own poop.

He is quiet except for when he wants something and that’s usually around dinner time or when getting water cause he LOVES ice cubes. He’ll wait by the fridge to get ice cubes.

He is super cuddly and always lays on the couch when watching TV or sleeps in bed at night. He is definitely a shadow dog. Wherever you go he goes doesn't matter if it is to the bathroom or to get a snack he is right behind you. He is definitely worth meeting!

  2. Finn has had a crazy month! He had a couple seizures which landed him at the emergency vet overnight. He took a little field trip to Minneapolis to visit a neurologist. Those results turned out as good as we could hope. He has idiopathic epilepsy and that's what's causing his seizures. He’s on a couple different medications for seizures. He just started a new medication for his seizures so this would be his 3rd seizure medication. He’ll need lab work done 2-3 times a year to monitor... Read more → Read less ↑

Finn's last known seizure was August 27th. The medications do a good job of controlling his seizures, but he is always going to have a couple seizures here and there. The vet said that the best we might get would be for him to have a couple seizures every 3-4 months and for them to last 5 minutes or less. Besides his seizures he's a normal happy golden retriever. He loves playing in the backyard with our two resident goldens, chewing on bones, and cuddling on the couch till he gets too hot.

  3. Finn has had an eventful last two weeks! It started with him having two seizures in 72hrs. He had his first one Sunday night and then he had another one Tuesday afternoon. So Monday he spent at the normal vet and then after his seizure Tuesday he spent 24 hrs at the emergency vet. This was his first time having a seizure since coming into RAGOM and he hasn't had a seizure since Tuesday, July 28th. This was his first time having a seizure since coming into RAGOM and he hasn't had a seizure since Tuesday, July 28th. After all this we did have a chat with his regular vet about his medications and nothing was changed, but she did bring up a good point that I had never considered, which is that the whole goal with his seizures and seizure medication isn’t curing them, it is managing them by decreasing the frequency and severity of them. So he will continue to have seizures. He came out of his seizures just fine. He was a bit groggy after which just means he was pacing a lot and bumping into things but went back to his normal self pretty fast.

Finn is such a cuddler, which might be my favorite quality about him! At the end of the day he is always on the couch right next to me watching TV. If you're sitting on the couch you can expect him to be right up there next to you. In typical golden fashion, you can also expect him to be wherever you are. As I'm writing this he's laying down right next to me on the floor. He does walk quietly so he does a very good job at sneaking up on you too.

  4. Finn is a 5 year old handsome golden retriever. He came into RAGOM as an owner surrender. He's a very cuddly, confident, and friendly golden. He gets along great with our two resident golden retrievers. He loves to run around in the backyard with them, but also does good on a leash. He's very curious about birds and tries to chase them. Finn does love car rides. He’ll walk up to the car door and look at you like,  "Come on, let’s go for a ride!" He does not like the kennel. He will bark the whole time he's in there and never really settles.  He does have a history of seizures and has recently been diagnosed with hypothyroid disease. These are both managed with daily medications.

With his seizures he would do best in a home that is calm and quiet. He’s been seizure free since he came into the rescue on June 2nd. When we first got him he had just had a seizure a couple days prior and so he was still a bit fuzzy and he did accidently nip me on the hand. It was not his fault and he's not had any other instances since. With the bite I was giving him a treat and he jumped up and accidentally got my hand and not the treat. Since then he's been taking treats out of my hand perfectly fine.

Finn is a sweet boy who just needs a quiet place to lay his head and he will be your best friend!
