RAGOM

Acorn

Profile

Acorn was one of five littermates found abandoned by the side of the road. They were brought into RAGOM because the local shelter was full. Acorn is a typical young puppy and can adapt in almost any home. She is good with children of all ages, dogs, and while untested will probably do well with cats. A physical fence is optional for Acorn.

Meet little Acorn! This sweetheart was found at the side of a road with her four littermates at an estimated age of 10 weeks. She was welcomed into RAGOM and has stolen the hearts of all who have met her.

Acorn has quickly adapted to life in her new foster home and is starting to understand our routines. While she has been somewhat reserved around the playful, large resident dog, she is beginning to initiate interactions including some recent games of tug, chase, and wrestling. Acorn is working on house training and is beginning to figure out why we are spending so much time standing outside in the yard! She will usually take care of her business right away when we go outside but is dependent on a strict schedule and crating to avoid accidents in the house.

Acorn is responsive to human voices and is treat-motivated which has made training very easy. She will usually respond to the request “Acorn, here” and is beginning to “sit” when a treat is presented. Acorn is learning how to walk on a leash and does well on short walks around the block.

Acorn is a very easy-going puppy who loves to snuggle. When held, she will nestle-in and quickly fall asleep. She enjoys interacting with children and adults and is the favorite reading buddy for her foster-mom’s tutoring business!

Acorn settles easily in her crate in the evening and usually sleeps through the night. During the day, she is happy in her crate as long as she can see or hear her foster mom. When left alone in her crate, Acorn will whimper and howl. (There are likely some beagle genes in the mix!) We are working on extending Acorn’s tolerance for being crated alone.

Recently, Acorn went to the groomer to have her nails trimmed. She rode in the car without any fear or sickness and she tolerated the nail trim well.

Acorn would thrive in a variety of home settings. Because of her gentle, calm temperament and her smaller size, she would do well in a home with young children. She could easily be an only dog but also gets along well with other dogs. While she has not been exposed to cats, her young age and her lack of interest in squirrels or bunnies suggests that a home with cats would not be a problem. Life in a single-family home would be the best fit for Acorn because at this time she can make a lot of noise when left alone in her crate. Acorn will be a loving and loyal companion for some lucky family!
