Meet Ava, or "Miss Personality" as we like to call her. This pup is approximately 3-4 months old, and smart as a whip. She had never been in a house prior to arriving in ours, but has settled in very quickly.She is happiest when she is surrounded by people, and absolutely loves everyone she meets.
She is very quiet, except for the loud tail thumping that is her response to anyone talking to her. She is easy- going and affectionate. adores our adult dog and is respectfully curious about our cats--an occasional sniff is the extent of her interactions with them.
Housebreaking is going very well. She sits quietly while we put on the leash, and squats every time we take her outside and tell her to "go potty." She sleeps well in her kennel at night, and has been waking once during the night to go out--she wakes us by whining, then goes back to sleep afterward.
She rides in the car very well, typically curling up in the back seat for a nap. She is quickly becoming accustomed to walking on a leash, and is curious about the world around her. We have begun working on "sit," and she is catching on quickly. She recognizes her name, loves to chase a ball, and adores snuggling on the nearest lap.
This little girl is going to be one wonderful dog!

Miss Ava has had a busy three weeks:She was checked out by the vet who says with certainty that she is five months old and will probably be about 60 pounds when full grown. She has been busy learning how to walk on a leash, respond to her name, and go outside to do her business, and she is doing pretty well with that. She loves to get out and about and is very popular with the people she meets, whether out on a walk or at dog daycare, where she is a favorite of staff and patrons alike. She will... Miss Ava has had a busy three weeks:
She was checked out by the vet who says with certainty that she is five months old and will probably be about 60 pounds when full grown. She has been busy learning how to walk on a leash, respond to her name, and go outside to do her business, and she is doing pretty well with that. She loves to get out and about and is very popular with the people she meets, whether out on a walk or at dog daycare, where she is a favorite of staff and patrons alike. She will spend the morning running and wrestling with other dogs, come home to enjoy an afternoon nap, and still be up for a walk after dinner.
We have learned a few things about the type of home Ava needs to go to. She may need a slow introduction, and another dog to show her how great the golden life is, would be ideal. She went to an adoptive home last weekend and the sudden change was too much for Ava--she was stressed, overwhelmed, and lonely for her dog brother, so was back in foster care the next day. Ava would benefit from a more gradual transition, possibly with a couple of visits before she moves to her forever home. We have also discovered that some men make Ava nervous. She will bark at some, but not all, men, and we haven't figured out a rhyme or reason to why that is. She absolutely adores her foster dad, so perhaps time to get to know any new men in her life would help. Despite her quirks, Ava is a sweet and wonderful pup, and anxious to meet her forever family!

She LOVES people, and greets everyone who walks through the door like a long lost friend, head down, ears back and tail wagging like crazy. Ava is very curious, and if someone gets up to leave the room, she invariably follows to see what they are up to. She loves nothing better than to be sprawled out in the middle of the room surrounded by people.
Miss Ava is affectionate and playful, and has a very quiet, gentle demeanor. She doesn't jump up on people or behave in a pushy manner, but will happily settle in for petting or a belly rub.
She loves to chase a ball (we are still working on the retrieving part) ride in the car (where she will curl up on the back seat) and play with her new friends at daycare. She is attentive to what is going on around her, responds to her name, and is eager to please. She loves to play outside, and is looking forward to playing in the fresh snow.
