Gabriel 15-094 was a very handsome 10-year-old Chocolate Lab mix. He had the most soulful eyes and a wonderful, kind temperament. Gabriel came to us as an honorary Golden. His story is typical of the animals who live on reservations. Gabriel, along with 17 other dogs, was rescued from an abandoned commercial building on a reservation. A very small group of dedicated folks gave up their Sunday plans to save these precious souls. Gabriel was thought to have a broken jaw when he was rescued and we knew he would need immediate medical attention when he arrived on transport.
He was the first dog unloaded from his long transport and seen by our veterinarian. Her first words were "Oh, this smells bad".... Yes, it was very bad. It was obvious from several feet away that his wound was massively infected and Gabriel was in very critical condition. It was also obvious he had not been able to eat or drink for some time and was near the end of his life. We quickly made arrangements for Gabriel to go to see Dr Vicki at ACT V. Shortly after he arrived with Dr Vicki, we received the news that his wound was a cancerous tumor and the only thing we could do was to end his pain and suffering. Gabriel was sent to The Bridge with a stuffed squirrel under his chin and surrounded by love. I told him he would soon be chasing squirrels again when I gave him the stuffed toy and kissed his beautiful head. I know Gabriel is running free at the Bridge with so many buddies. Godspeed, my friend; I am honored to have met you and to have been able to help you on this last part of your journey.
Gabriel says thank you very much to everyone who supports rescue in any way!!
