This is the most recent information available; however, it may change as we learn more about the dog. |
Rocky has been with us a week now after being surrounded by a loving family that didn’t have the time to commit to him. He has a 5 year old, pure bred golden retriever and a love bug extraordinaire. He is a very sweet boy and needy for loving, attention. Rocky likes to hold hands; I mean paws when snuggling on the couch. He lived with two smaller dogs and hasn’t been exposed to cats in the house. He has been known to chase cats and other outside animals. His SO told us everyone who met Rocky, loved him. He had good recall and could be let outside without a tie-out or fence. We noticed, he comes in immediately after potting. He is learning to run around outside in our fenced backyard. He chases after Tyson 14-348; who initiates a game of chase.
He kennels very well and responds to “kennel” when we need to leave the house. He takes treats nicely from us, but makes extra efforts to eat every ones (human and dog) treats. We are working on getting him to calm down with food. He jumps up when we are carrying food. We have been hand feeding him to slow down how he eats. He was previously fed once a day, so we are feeding him 2-3 times a day to let him know food will be coming regularly.
Rocky met our neighbor kids and enjoyed playing with him. Until he learns manners around food, we think it best he goes to a family with older or no kids.
His favorite toys were stuffed animals, so I limited his exposure this week. He does not know drop or leave, we have been working with him on this with a ball. Yesterday, Tyson 2 and Rocky got after each other when I let him have an animal. Now, they are both more reserved around each other. His ear got in the way of their spat, which we discovered hours later when we whimpered.
He will be vetted this week and he is marked unavailable until we know what the next steps are for the open sore, growth on his side and his ear is examined.
