Sophie

Profile

Sophie was rescued by RAGOM from auction. Rosie is very nervous around young children and needs a dog in the home for a mentor.  She is good with cats and a physical fence is required.  Sophie is looking for a family that will provide patience, love and guidance to become a delightful family member.

Sophie is a delicate soul learning what it means to feel safe and loved. At just one year old, this beautiful English Cream Golden Retriever came into rescue from a commercial breeding auction on April 27th. Her early experiences left her deeply fearful—of people, noises, sudden movements, and even her own shadow.

Sophie will not be a quick or easy companion. The popular “3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months” rule for a dog’s adjustment doesn’t apply to her. She’s on her own timeline, and it will likely take many months—perhaps even longer—before she begins to trust and blossom. But we believe she can, and will, with the right environment and support.

    Sophie’s ideal home will have:

    • A calm, confident resident dog to serve as her guide and emotional anchor.
    • A secure area would be in her best interests —she is a flight risk and would be difficult to catch if spooked.
    • No very young children—not because she is aggressive (she is not), but because sudden movements and unpredictable energy may heighten her fear and stress.

Sophie currently lives with two gentle resident dogs who are showing her what it means to be a cherished family member. She watches, learns, and finds comfort in their presence. Her foster home provides her with the quiet consistency she needs to begin healing.

She may never be the kind of dog who enjoys crowded events or greets strangers at the door—but in the right home, with time, patience, and lots of love, Sophie has the potential to become a loyal and deeply devoted companion.

If you believe in the quiet magic of trust earned over time and have the heart and home to help Sophie feel safe, she may be the dog for you.
