Twinkie is heading back to her beloved Minnesota (St. Paul) after a 30-day stop in the great Hawkeye state (Johnston, Iowa). She was a great first foster dog for us and we are very sad she’s gone, but also very happy for her and her new family. She’s as sweet as Goldens come and now can share that with the wonderful family that just adopted her. A mom, dad, and a young brother and sister to play with in her forever home! Meet Twinkie — an almost 5-year-old (June 2) female Golden Retriever with a big heart and even bigger hugs. Twinkie came to RAGOM from a loving home (she arrived with toys and Lambie) and she’s ready to be part of a loving family once again. She’s pure love and doesn’t have an aggressive or mean bone in her body. She always greets you with a wagging tail, a happy grin, and plenty of snuggles. Her go-to move is setting you up for butt scratches (she walks between your legs and stops so that you can scratch her back and behind)! She is also quick to warm up and be part of the family (within two hours for us)! At night, she does just fine and likes to sleep in our bedroom on her bed or the floor.

Twinkie is a larger female Golden weighing just about 80 pounds. The veterinarian wants her to lose 15 pounds to be healthy. Her future family will need to commit to helping her in this endeavor. This will prevent hip and knee problems down the road (none currently). Because of her weight, you can tell she will not jump up or down from beds or couches. We have been trying to help her in this area and so far it’s going well! With that being said, she is just a large female and very tall and has very large paws. Other than needing to lose some weight, she is very healthy and loves playing with her foster brothers Odie and Cooper in the back yard! She runs and walks perfectly fine. On walks, she does tend to pull at first, which is another thing we are working on.

Twinkie is great with other dogs (we have two males) and is also great with cats! She’s never met a human she does not instantly love. Because she is large, she could knock over a small child by accident but it would definitely not be intentional (she is pure love). She is curious about children playing in the neighbor's yard and wants to play with them. She will warn you about little boys and girls on tricycles on the front side walk! She’s an expert in sit, down, stay, shake and come! She is potty trained and has never had an accident in the house. She is not destructive in any way and we have never had to crate or separate her. There is no need to crate her. She also gets free access in the house when we step out for a bit and there’s never been a problem. She is fully house trained!

She is a little sassy and vocal when she wants attention; her future family should have patience and a sense of humor as they learn what she’s asking for (most often, it’s playtime or more butt scratches)! While she loves being near her people, she does not need constant attention and fully capable of entertaining herself.
Twinkie would thrive in a home that can meet her physical and mental needs — someone who loves walks, games, and plenty of affection! She’s a loyal, fun-loving companion looking for her furever home. Are you the family to celebrate her 5th birthday with?
