Pearl is a 7-year-old female Golden Retriever. She has medium red hair and doesnot have a super thick coat. She is improving with walks at this time, as I don’t think she hasever been out of her breeding kennel much before coming to RAGOM. She doesn’t get theconcept of a leash, as she will just circle around the handler. I feel with proper training this willbe easily fixed as she does appear to be a very smart dog. Pearl is a 7-year-old female Golden Retriever. She has medium red hair and does
not have a super thick coat. She is improving with walks at this time, as I don’t think she has
ever been out of her breeding kennel much before coming to RAGOM. She doesn’t get the
concept of a leash, as she will just circle around the handler. I feel with proper training this will
be easily fixed as she does appear to be a very smart dog.She came into RAGOM care by surrender of her owner in July of 2026. She was a breeder dog
previously. Her energy level is improving, but at this time, it is maybe a medium level. She has
improved greatly since coming into RAGOM. As stated above, she didn’t have a lot of
freedom in her previous lifestyle. She is not crate-trained, in fact, we are unable to get her to go
into a crate. She has slept at bedside with no issues since night one. She does tend to be a
velcro dog. She has gotten along well with our 3 other dogs. There has been no interaction
with cats.We did have issues initially with her eating and drinking. She did start drinking on day 2, but it
took a few more days for her to slowly start to eat. We needed to enhance her food with either canned
salmon or pumpkin. She does better now eating just kibble. She has recently started to retrieve
balls, however, she is finicky if one of the other dogs has had the ball in their mouth and may result in her not getting it.She is microchipped and has been spayed. She does take treats from your hand gently and
does not snap for food.As far as challenges, she does tend to cower when you approach to pet her. She doesn’t appear to
be scared, as her tail is wagging, but she drops to a down position. She has started destroying
stuffed toys at night. Not sure if it is out of boredom or just that she doesn’t know how to play
with toys as she has never had experience with them in the past.
