This is the most recent information available; however, it may change as we learn more about the dog.

Angel's name sums up her personality. She is such a special dog and deserves a special forever home. I don't think I've met a sweeter Golden Retriever!

Angel is a 7-year-old, purebred, spayed female Golden Retriever. Angel was an outside dog until she came into RAGOM's care. Now she is learning all about air conditioning! She loves it! Angel also loves balls and bones. She will growl at other dogs to tell them to stay away from her toy, but it never goes further than that. She's loved all the kids she's met and she's fine with other dogs, but she wants to interact with humans more than dogs. Angel also has the most luxurious, dark-red fur. She looks great now that she's been vetted and bathed. Oh, and there have been no accidents in the house, so she appears to be house-trained, although it's always us telling her when to go outside.

Remember that question on the home visit that asked "Would you consider a dog with special needs?" Well, Angel has a couple of special needs, but really, they are no big deal. She's a super easy foster. When she arrived, Angel weighed in at a whopping 105 pounds! She should probably be no more than 70 pounds, possibly less. We have been walking Angel around the block, and sometimes, we need to rest partway home. (It's about .65 miles.) She loves getting out and about for her walks! This morning, she was almost prancing and trotting she was so excited. With the heat we've had, we've only been able to walk her once a day in the cool morning. After that, we just take her out in the backyard for brief walks. The heat and humidity is too much for a dog who is this obese. Angel hasn't been eating very well since coming to us, so I imagine her weight will start dropping quite rapidly. Kibble and green beans just aren't her idea of what a dog should be fed. :-) In spite of her weight, Angel will walk right up the ramp into the back of our SUV and rides calmly. She just slides down the ramp to get out, but that might have more to do with her other special need.

The other special need is that Angel is blind. She will be going to a specialist to make sure that her eyes aren't causing her any pain, but we're pretty sure she can't see at all. It's remarkable how well Angel uses her hearing and scent to get around. It's what makes us question whether or not she is fully blind. She has our house and yard figured out quite well. She can even do the 2 front steps! We haven't tried a whole staircase yet.

Angel came to us with her daughter, Little Girl 15-197 . Angel needs a companion dog or a human who is around all the time since she seems to get overwhelmingly lonely, or maybe scared, when she's alone. She will bark or whine, but is getting more comfortable every day.

Ideally, Angel's forever family would adopt both Angel and Little Girl. At the very least, it would be best if they had a confident, empathetic dog in their household. The family needs to be committed to continuing her exercise and weight loss program. She doesn't exercise much on her own, so frequent walks are required.

Come meet these wonderful girls at Goldzilla on September 13th!
