This is the most recent information available; however, it may change as we learn more about the dog.

We would like to introduce Bo, a loving engergtic 3 year-old red golden lab mix.  He has a beautiful red coat and a wonderful face.  Bo has been with us for about a week and is learning the routine around our home.  Bo saw the Vet and he is up to date on all of his shots.  He is a bit overweight at 95 pounds, so it is recommended he lose about 15 pounds for his size.  His eyes are weepy and we are looking into that situation.

He loves to be with his humans.  He is great with our resident dog who isn't always about playing and Bo respects that.  He comes from a home with a cat.  He loves belly rubs, snuggles and prefers  the couch, chair and bed to the floor.  Bo loves to play fetch, but doesn't like to drop the ball for you, so we often have a few balls in the rotations.  He takes treats gently, know sit and offers his paw.  Bo enjoys his walks and is learning to walk a straight line on his leash rather than zigzag down the sidewalk.  He responds well when we simply say his name to keep him moving forward.  A harness is working well right now because he likes to pull.

Bo shows some signs of separation anxiety when Foster Mom leaves the house and we have found that it is best if he is contained in the mudroom with his toys, water and bed.  He isn't destructive but will bark or whine for a bit.

After a week at our house here are a few things we know to be important for Bo in his new home.

  • Bo will do best with a family that is home more than away.
  • Bo will do best with older children given his size, excitability which can knock little ones down.
  • Bo will need a fence to  keep him safe and allow him to burn some energy outside of walks.
  • Bo would do great with another dog in the house to play with and to keep him company.
  • Bo will need a safe space to rest his head while owners are away, a gate most likely will not contain him.

Please look forward to more updates as we get to know this loving boy a little more.
