Happy Endings Bubba! From Brad and Michele

Please welcome Bubba 12-290 (Bubs, Bud, Buddy) to RAGOM. Bubs is a blonde, 8 year old male golden retriever/mix. He was surrendered to the local shelter when his SO experienced housing difficulties. The shelter was full so RAGOM was contacted. He is now neutered, UTD on all shots, heartworm negative so was started on preventatives: Iverhart and Frontline. The vet set a goal to gain 10 pounds with a healthy diet.

He’s done so much in such a short time and has handled the transitions very well. He started off a little dazed and flea infested, but is now engaged and oh so handsome. He is a low energy dog. He walks pretty well with a flat collar and loves to look outside, especially the front yard. His favorite spot is the front window.

Here are a few other things we’ve learned about him thus far:

  • He doesn’t counter surf or beg for people food, but he is enjoying his hamburger & rice as prescribed by the vet.
  • Loves rides in the car.
  • His Golden genes require him to be where ever you are but he is quite content to just lay by you.
  • Gets along with dogs. He lived with a small terrier and is doing well with our RD. He would really like to play more with her, but she is a little stand-offish.
  • Needs a fenced yard- he went “visiting” the neighbors with a long trailing leash and seems to have a strong prey drive…he likes to get the bunnies out of our yard.
  • Follows basic commands- “sit” and “down.” He is working on “shake” and “stay” and making great strides.
  • Does not like to be crated or gated. He has “busted out” of both.
  • Housetrained? When we are home, no problems. When we are gone, he has had a couple of accidents in the area he was gated…maybe more mad for being gated? We will try free roam since he has not gotten into anything he shouldn’t
  • Sleeps on the floor in the bedroom, but has slept on the bed with his SO, so he will jump up for a quick belly scratch.
  • Some resource guarding with food but lets you take toys. For this reason, a home with older children would be best.

There is so much more to tell about this wonderful boy. Stay tuned for more updates as you consider adding this beautiful dog to your family. He had a family who loved him but couldn’t care for him. He’s eager to find that forever family who can do both. Could that be you?
