Buck would like to thank RAGOM for getting him under their wings! He was surrendered by a family who loved him very much but needed to surrender him because their other GR was picking on him and Buck was getting the short end of the stick. He was an outdoor dog so we will be working on potty training. He is very much wanting to please so I don't anticipate this taking long at all!
Buck is 2-years-old and probably about 65 pounds. He is not yet neutered nor is he up-to-date on his vaccinations. He has an appointment at the vet on Monday to get the process all started.
The first order of business for an outdoor dog turned indoor was a bath! He wasn't too keen on this idea but we got the job done and now he smells great and his coat is much more soft! We only touched the surface so he'll be getting a special bath at the RAGOM Dog Wash next weekend! Just to top off his beauty :-)
Buck lived in a home with at least 5 children of varying ages and loves them! There were also several farm cats that he left alone and apparently, they liked him! So based on his past, I would be OK with adopting him to a family with younger kids and cats.
Buck, however, will not be going to a home that has a dog. He did really well meeting the resident dogs here but based on him getting picked on in the past, he is not quite sure about how to play. He gets nervous when the resident dogs start rough housing and wants to be the center of attention. I think that with patience and training he will be fine living with a dog down the road, but for now he needs to be an only dog.
Buck has a very special feature that you don't find very often in dogs - he smiles! The first time I saw it, I thought he was growling and backed off until I saw his tail wagging. He shows ALL his teeth! It's the funniest thing. We were sitting outside today and I'd blow in his face (you know, the pffft that you do to make babies giggle) and he'd smile and give me a kiss. The neighbor lady came over and she got a huge smile!
Buck is the absolute definition of retriever! He LOVES his tennis balls and would likely play until he couldn't play anymore. He loves to swim (I got to hear a funny story about swimming across a lake to join a wedding) and he is a people pleaser.
Buck won't be ready for adoption until he is neutered and we get his vaccinations started, but if you'd like to meet him and think he would make a great fit to your home please contact your placement advisor!
