This is the most recent information available; however, it may change as we learn more about the dog. |
What can we say about Miss Claire? She is approximately 5 1/2 yrs. old, and 78 lbs. of Golden love. She has a white chest, underbelly and four white paws. She is a mix but looks like she may have a small part of Aussie. She has the golden swagger, body and tail, definitely the nudge and loves her people. She wants a lot of attention.
Claire came from a loving home but needed more time and attention than her owner was able to give. Job responsibilities changed and the boys that had spent the summer with her were going back to college. Claire showed her displeasure by digging and soiling in the house.
She has been well cared for, up to date on all shots and preventatives. The Vet recommended a weight loss of around 10-12 lbs, she's a little overweight, so we are taking our daily walks. FM can use that too!
Claire has been with me for 10 days and here is what I have learned.
Soiling issue: She has not had an accident in my house since I've had her. Granted, I work from home and I am able to let her out any time (even though she doesn't seem to need to very often).
Other dogs: She got along with a Yorkie I was dog sitting. They had a yip fest and once Claire saw the Yorkie showed no fear there was no further issue. She tolerates my sister's 10 mo. old Lab, he plays very rough. She at first intimidated my RD, Cooper the English Setter, and they seem to get along now, still working on that. Coop is very timid and Claire sees this. Slow introductions would work best.
Anxiety/storms: She gets worked up during a storm and rain, no matter how small. We had our first storm last night and I was awake with a very nervous dog in my bed and curled around my head, lots of panting. We tried her kennel and she didn't tolerate that well. We did use her thunder shirt, that may have helped some.
Walks/tie out: I don't have a physical fence, so I tie her out for periods of time and she does fine. She is very strong and pulls at the start of our walks but calms down pretty quick and walks fine.
Behavior/training: she knows 'sit', 'stay' 'back', 'shake' and lays down on command. Treats help, of course!
She is getting settled in. The first 3-4 days she was very nervous and afraid. She has started playing with her toys! She is a beautiful girl, very loving, and has all the Golden qualities! She loves to lay on the couch with you, head on your lap and wants to get in your bed to be close to you. Sometimes she doesn't stay long, and....She sleeps through the night, has since day one.
I've let her have the run of the house on several occasions for over 2 hours and she's been the perfect lady, no issues, and she had the company of the little Yorkie! She barks rarely and stops when told to.
Here are some pictures of Claire. She is quite a beauty. I will send out another update next week. If you think you could give Claire lots of attention and have patience with the storm issue, she would make a wonderful companion.
