Profile

October 18, 2009:  Disher was born in a Ragom foster home last November. His mother was Lauren and she was from a puppy mill. He was adopted as a puppy but because of changes to his family, was returned to Ragom this past week.

Disher as a puppy

He is now 11 months old. He weighed 60 pounds at the vet this morning. He is neutered and up-to-date on his shots. Although his mother was a golden retriever, Disher has more characteristics of his father, who was apparently a poodle. Disher looks like a gold poodle, with a long tail. He also has the personality of a poodle. I do agility with several standard poodles and Disher definitely reminds me of them more than any goldens I know. He is more talkative than goldens generally are. He does not seem to shed at all! He jumps like a poodle, I'm not sure how to explain it, but poodles have their own way of jumping. At this point he still has his puppy energy. He is basically just a big dorky puppy with a great temperament!

He had a bath last night and he enjoyed it. He rides well in the car. He allowed me to bathe him, the vet to poke and prod him as well as take blood for a heartworm test. He loves to play with my dogs and he plays nice. They are all roughly the same size, although Disher looks bigger as he is sort of shaggy (actually I think he's adorable!!). They wrestle and Disher barks while they play. They all have had a fantastic time playing and wrestling. He is mildly interested in the cat, but she just tells him when he's bugging her, and he backs right off.

He does not bother my mill momma foster Sinda 09-253...she has been bothered by other young dogs that have stayed here, but Disher has not sent her into hiding. Probably because he's not too wild. In fact, he's very calm and settles down quickly!!

He goes in a crate when nobody is home and is silent, so obviously he's used to that.

At this point, I would think Disher would be a great addition to any household. He will definitely need obedience training, I would encourage several levels of it. He will be available to meet families by next weekend. Email your placement advisor if you would like to meet him.
