Dozer welcome to RAGOM! Dozer is a gorgeous AKC certified pure bred golden retriever, 11 months old, stands about 32” tall, and weighs 76 pounds! He’s UTD on all vaccines, heartworm preventatives, and Frontline, and will be neutered on 10/7. He did arrive with a round scab on top of his head and the vet had to shave a small square to examine it under the microscope. It was a hot spot which was treated with an ointment and has cleared up already...but growing his hair back might take a few weeks. :) Dozer is one BIG bundle of love that still thinks he’s a puppy in every way!
Dozer entered foster care on September 26; lovingly surrendered by his owner who was working 12hr days and wanted a better life for him. This beautiful boy has settled right in.
Observations:
• He’s a puppy in a very large body. When not nudging you to play fetch, or rolling over for a tummy rub, he’ll be nearby on the floor chewing a bone
• Housebroken; comes up to you, or stands at the door when he needs to go out
• Eats well but not a chow hound, is treat motivated, does not beg at the table
• Free run of the house when we’re home, and doesn’t get on furniture
• At night he lays down on the floor to sleep or goes into the crate with open door
• Rides well in the car
• Knows the commands sit, stay, down, come (at least for 1 minute)
• Walks beautifully on a regular leash... if there are no distractions. He does okay with the Easy Walk Harness but when encountering dogs, people, bikers, or sees rabbits; he pulls hard and jumps up to greet them-just like a puppy
• Barking is minimal and has never done so on a walk
• He’s shown no storm or separation anxiety (he does bark/whine for a few minutes when I leave him)
• Likes to be bathed and brushed, but doesn’t like his nails cut
• Crate trained (crated when we’re away, usually left 1 - 2hrs at a time)
Areas of “puppiness” we’re working on with training:
• He does have a tendency to jump up on people
• He does a lot of puppy mouthing/nipping (no bite intention)
• If you get on the ground he will step, sit, and lay on you
• He does have a fondness for shoes
Requirements in his forever home due to his size:
• It’s imperative that his forever family be committed to putting time into his training daily so he can become the very best dog possible
• He would do best in a home with no other dogs and only with children whom are 12 or older
• We currently walk 2 miles twice per day, and this tires him out. Additionally we use a long cable tie out to actively play fetch with him (his favorite game). A fence would be preferred so he can run, but not required.
Dozer is an exceedingly handsome guy who will thrive in a loving home that provides consistent training, exercise and affection. He’s a smart, treat motivated, big dog, that will surely reward someone by being a wonderful golden companion for many years to come!
